I picked up some evaporust today. Going to try and get the pistons moving so I can pull them and the rods out. I want tonverfiy the rods are in good shape. Hopefully once they're out ill be able to determine if the block is salvageable or not. Unfortunately, local machine shops aren't being very accommodating.
If I can not rebuild this engine. Then i will shift focus to building up my current engine in the truck. Having a good engine in my truck is the end goal anyway.
Shoot. I wish. Need to get my current vehicles running before adding to the fleet.
So if you folks were to have to pick between these hpops, which would you go for:
CNC stage 1 or 2
Terminator
Bosch 17*
These all seem to be within a reaosnable amount of each other. The Adrenaline is a few hundred more, is it really worth the extra? I could get new hpop hoses with the cost difference.
My trucks engine hit a snag today. Think ive got it sorted. Thought I was gonna have to rapidly move my timetable up.
Turns out I had a piece of that heat barrier shield that was bent down a bit and rubbing on my turbo feed line. Another member had this happen to them too I believe. Luckily I caught it.
Doesn't look like it'll be super hard to recraft a new one thankfully.
Picked up the items from Autobone to replace the feed line. It's just some 5/16" tubing and a couple compression fittings. Hopefully get get it bent up today and put the truck back together.
I have the spare engine turned so one bank is straight up ish and poured some evaporust into each cylinder. Well see how well that works.
I also put some evaporust in a pan and placed this balancer in it. Well be able to get a before and after picture of this.
Well, the evaporust has been working phenomenally. The damper looks much better. I'll grab a picture in the morning.
I straightened the block out on the stand to put some evapomagic in the other cylinders. As soon as I filled them up I noticed the front cylinder (#2) was leaking it out the bottom. Upon a closer (using both eyes and a light) I discovered it's mega Fd.
So that looks like it's gonna be scrap for this block. I couldnt even find a machine shop that wanted to look at it before, let alone now that it'd at least need one new sleeve.
Gonna check the rods amd such out tomorrow. They looked straight when i had it turned upside down. I'll pull and clean up everything except the block. Keep them for spare parts or cores or so.
I'm gonna see in the morning. I plan to take the crank out and try to get the pistons and rods out. Doesn't matter trying to see if the crank will turn now really.
Wanted to show that balancer. The evaporust worked really well. I rinsed the balancer off and flipped it over to get the other side again. Sprayed the exposed top with some wd to hopefully prevent any flash rust.
Got one piston out of the block for now. Gonna try and get the rest but its all stuck pretty good.
The line works! Had to snug up the bottom fitting a bit. Going to drive it to work tomorrow and double check it for leaks. We're getting more sleet/snow currently so I need the truck to be operational again.
The spare engine is still super stuck. I have started cleaning up and bagging all the hardware. The balancer has cleaned up really well. Probably cleaner and in better shape then my current balancer on the truck. I hit it with some WD and put it in a zip lock bag for now.
Going to try and clean up the timing cover a bit and finish bagging the various piece I have already organized from the engine tear down.
I was gone for a week but did get a chance to look at the engine again today. Managed to pull a couple lifters out. They were stuck to the block where they sit. Tried tapping them all from above with a brass punch to shock them loose.
Them being stuck in place I feel is a big factor in why the crank won't turn. Cams frozen due to the lifters being seized in place.
