I saw in another post where Theo had made reference to being a member of the Templars. So is this group still around? I mean I have read some about modern day Templars(Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum" for example), but that is a work of fiction, so I didn't really think they were still around. How big is the organization--and is there any real organization to it? Just wondering-- there is something really cool about the whole warrior/monk thing.
There are 3 orders of Templars currently in existence, one with less than 30 members, but growing, another with about 100, and my Order, with a few thousand in. Unfortunately people have difficulty relating to the Templars, because we are low tech, with no web site, and cannot correct the incorrect information circulating about us.
The warrior monk thing is kind of cool... I enjoy it still, and have done throughout my military career.

IIRC, they were warriors, but were forbidden to "smite with the edge of a blade", so they fought with blunt weapons (hammers, maces, staves, clubs, etc.).
(Removed something guaranteed to get someone jumping down my throat.)
