I don’t live where it is very cold, maybe 50s at the lowest, but I have noticed a knock that has developed on a cold start first thing in the morning. I’ll post a video of it in the morning when it does it. Goes away within 30 seconds or so. Going to take it into the shop, but you know how the dealers can be so seeing if anyone has had a similar issue and can point me in the right direction. It is not the fan noise that some have posted about, and sounds different than the rattle that comes from the transmission / bell housing area at idle.
its probly better described as a rapid tapping noise. if its doing it 30sec every morning you may just want to try a different brand oil filter as a first step. if that doesnt work then yes get it to a dealer
filters have a one way valve. my hunch is some of them allow oil to drain back to the pan and the system need reprimed again after sitting over night or for extended periods. its something easy that can be done to see if it makes any difference. a tapping on regular basis you want to get figured out soon as possible. once in a great while isnt much of a big deal
What year is your 7.3? There was a TSB about the oil pump gear and there is also a TSB for the noise you are hearing in the transmission bellhousing/torque converter area. I dont know the date cutoffs but it could be all the way into 2022.
It’s a 2022. Do you have a good website to pull up the TSBs on. I haven’t been able to find one on the quick search I did.
I’ll change out the oil filter and see if that helps as well. Thank you for the help and quick response!
I'll try to search for them and post a link or picture. My 2022 has never had a recall or TSB but I dropped it off for warranty work and the camera button not working and my driver's door lock actuator stopped working electronically. The dealer said they replaced both through either a recall or TSB and they didn't even need to warranty them.
Here is the TSB for the ticking from the torque converter. It is dated November 25th, 2020 but it was later expanded to 2021s in 2021. So they knew about it for months and were still assembling vehicles with the issue. I dont know if it has been further expanded but the good thing is you just have to remove the inspection cover to see if that is the cause. Or just lay under the truck while it's in park and see if the noise is coming from that exact location.

Would that apply when the filter is mounted in a manner as it is on the 7.3? On the bottom and dome end down?
without hearing the noise first hand its hard to be confident in any diagnosis but tapping lifters are unmistakable if you know what it sounds like. i only mention the filter because i had a couple episodes of deflated lifters with brand x filter. switched to wix xp and problem solved.. its very possible your noise is the cracked oil gear or something else alltogether
