Have a 2021 F150 and yesterday the battery was totally dead. Not even the dome light would come on. So I got my micro starter out and hooked it up to the battery. This is a good quality one, was charged 100% and automatically turned on when I got the clamps on both the battery terminals. Got in the truck to start it and still not a bit of power to do anything.
so at this point I assumed I had more problems than just a dead battery. Next day the dealer picked up the truck and the fix was just a new battery. So what makes me wonder is why my micro starter did supply power to the truck. Fully charged and the clamps were on the terminals. Wouldn’t this send power to the vehicle. I’ve used this starter before and never a problem. What am I missing here?? Tks.
Did you take a voltage reading on old battery, if it was shorted internally I can see that happening.
Thought after the fact that I should have broken out the multi meter. But even if there were no voltage or even no battery at all, shouldn’t hooking the micro starter up to the cables have provided power to the truck.
Very likely the JUMP START Battery clamps went contact open from the high current drawn.
At the moment of cranking attempt, the truck Battery Resistance is low and drawing Current from the JUMP BATTERY..
The added Current draw from Starter load, at the same time, the JUMP BATTERY clamps went open circuit.
It melts the lead post Clamp contact area and loses good contact.
Common occurrence.
You just missed it by not being able to see it spark, being in the CAB.
Good luck.
