You found the source....FTE 73-79 forum. Worth more than you can imagine or would ever believe now days. And always based off trucks location, current condition, options the truck has. 2wd, 4wd, mechanical condition, short bed, long bed. Rust, 6 cly, V8, PS/PB, a/c...Title.
Post up what you are looking at (info and pics) and you will get a lot of experienced opinions.
Is there a good resource for figuring out the value of these pickups? I see pricing all over the map.
You really have to look at the condition and features. I think 1975 is smog exempt in California, so that's a plus. As a regular work truck, most things working, I'd say about 3K. If everything works, paint is very good and has PS/PB and straight body, probably $6~8K. F250 highboy, $12K min up to near $30K for a very nice one.
Body, paint, rust, drive train condition are big deals.
You might look at Bring Your Trailer and see what they are selling for.
BaT is a great resource. You can find good original trucks there, fully restored beauties, mechanically restored trucks, and trucks that have had some stuff done that would have been better off left alone. The tough thing is that sometimes I will see what I perceive to be a junk sell for top dollar, and other times I see things that are really nice go cheaper than I would have anticipated.
Value is really about what you are looking for, and what you are willing to pay for it. I will pay top dollar for an unmolested, rust free, original paint truck, but have 0 interest in something with a cobbled floor pan replacement, aftermarket stereo, or cheap repaint.
I think it is safe to say that there are a ton of variables, but the most bulletproof value lies in trucks that are either completely original, or are true to the original styling (restored or not).
What I have here is an early 1975 F250 Ranger Camper Special with 125K miles on it. This pickup spent most of its life in a desert-like climate where a cylinder head could sit outside for years and only have a light rust on it, I am not aware of any significant rust. As it is early year ’75 it has the dual piston front brake calipers. The calipers, lines, and rotor/hub were all replaced a couple of months ago. It has a 360 with the C6 trans, PS & PB. Trans was rebuilt a year ago. The engine was replaced prior to my getting the pickup with a crate engine. The cam did have a lobe go flat requiring it to be replaced. Only cam I was able to find quickly was a Crane RV cam, lifter, & spring set. The cylinders looked great, no visible wear at all, they looked like they had just been honed. While I was at it I installed a Pertronix electronic distributor, rebuilt the carb, and installed a roller chain set. I used a lower timing gear that corrected the factory timing change Ford had made for emissions. I understand the cam went flat likely due to using modern oil in an older engine, so I switched to high Zinc oil more in line with what it would have used in ’75. It is setup for the factory dual battery system. I replaced the entire exhaust system with a new OEM style system. As it is a Camper Special it has the 8100 GVW package with the camper tie-down arms mounted to the frame. I do have the original chrome tube style spring loaded tie-downs for the camper if desired. On the interior I have replaced the headliner and carpet. I have also recently replaced the door outer window seals. Tires are in good shape.
