Gravity Feed Tank

Considering installing a RDS 60 gallon tank using gravity feed. Have read several comments that after a period of time leaving the valve open. The vehicle has the potential to start throwing codes due to zero movement of the fuel gauge.

2016 F350 6.7
Thank you in advance.

I haven’t ever seen that with mine.

But I have started closing the valve when the main tank doesn’t need fuel. My main tank has overflowed a few times when parked downhill with auxiliary tank open. It would also puke out some diesel if slap full and the weather warmed up while it was parked. I’ve alleviated both of those by routing the tank vent up into the bed. I don’t worry about leaving it open on long trips but do keep it closed most of the time these days unless I need to transfer some fuel.

I had an aux tank on 2016. I moved the tank to the 2024. And installed a new RDS fill install kit.

In the 2016 I could leave aux on while driving and it would slowly fill till aux tank empty then truck tank gauge would go down with fuel consumption.

I tried that with the 2024 and it’s being silly. As I was driving back from a camp I had the aux tank open to fill. Truck tank was 3/4. As it filled the gauge stopped noticeably before fill. 2nd issue is the Rds check valve didn’t stop. I have fuel all the way to the cap. I realize there is differing camps on that subject.

I disconnected batteries to reset but no change. We are leaving for big trip with camper so I’m hoping the gauge will move eventually. I’ll leave the aux tank off.
