Yes. Protection. Am Iooking at my options. Thinking about putting a brush guard. Has anybody had any trouble changing light bulbs with a brush guard? That's my only real concern.
It is truly a beast. This isn't my first F-550. I had a 2008 f550 powerstroke with a 6.4 but got rid of it after several years because the motor kept messing up giving me problems.
Although the suspension of both vehicles are almost identical they drive very differently. The 7.3 moves the big truck effortlessly. It has very good throttle response. I am very happy with it so far but there is one thing I really don't like about it at all and that is you can only idle the motor for 30 minutes before it turns off automatically. Even if I go into the settings I cannot disable it permanently or temporarily. Is anybody aware of a good workaround for this? Other then that I am very happy with the purchase.
I'd be willing to bet that the idle situation can be dealt with by a Ford mechanic who might be able to turn that switch off. I couldn't believe how many things the software can do. The only problem is the warranty. You might have to put up with the 30 minute idle until the warranty expires, though. Ford won't talk about that stuff. But the guy in the shop might, if you have someone you know in the dealer truck shop. Nice to have friends in the shop.
That's a nice looking truck!

About the warranty they offered me one when I was signing the papers. They said they could offer me a bumper to bumper warranty extended out to 175,000 MI. I thought it was a good deal so I went ahead and accepted it. The truck I bought was first ordered by a tow truck company but for some reason they did not pick up the vehicle. This explains why it has a few things on it that I don't want or need, for example two batteries, and two alternators. It has the heavy duty payload package which I do want and like. However it has a small midship gas tank. The Ford guy is working on getting me another tank after-axle.
I'm not too crazy about the mirrors either. I had bigger ones on my 2012 6.2 F350. These look like a SIM card on your phone and cut out some real estate that I would like to keep an eye on.
Regarding about how it won't idle over 30 minutes without shutting down, I saw somewhere on YouTube that a guy says all you got to do is rest something against the break to engage the brake lights while it's idling and it won't turn off. That sounds interesting. One day soon I'm going to experiment and see if that works. In the meantime I just have to deal with it. Like you said
You'd think Ford would put a large gas tank on a large truck that uses a lot of gas. That idea about the brake pedal makes sense. Sometimes Ford has an almost better idea until someone comes around and experiments. Two batteries makes sense, but two alternators? That's interesting.

Yeah it was intended to be a tow truck like a roll off flatbed tow truck. So whoever had originally ordered it wanted two batteries and two alternators to run accessories and light bars and such.
Yeah I don't like the size of the gas tank. Ford is working on trying to get me a bigger one after-axle. I guess when you order a tow truck you have to add a bunch of accessories under the frame to operate the roll-off bed and a rear gas tank would get in the way of mounting all that equipment so they settle for a small midship gas tank. Something else I just got to deal with for now till I figure it out
Good luck Ed. Looking forward to your posts in the 7.3 forum. I liked my 6.2 but the 7.3 is an animal.
It really is an animal. This motor moves this big heavy truck effortlessly I'm surprised. Even going over the ship channel bridge in Houston Texas which is a nice little incline ,it goes over it like it's nothing . stays in 10th gear whether I'm loaded or not
So I had ordered some Timbrens suspension parts for my truck. They've been sitting in my garage for a few days now. It's an hour before the super bowl and I'm saying to myself I can do this. Timbrens or the super bowl. Timbrens or the super bowl.
Timbrens it is. Install was straightforward but a little time-consuming. I had them before on my F350 and they work really really well. Plus they have a lifetime warranty which I did use one time because they started to develop some tears. Timbrens stands behind their product and their warranty.
Most people would never need something like this but when you are in the hot shot business like me you take advantage of products like this. Sometimes shippers tell us something weighs so many pounds but it turns out to be much more.
Better for me to have too much truck than not enough.
All went well. I just missed most of the first quarter but it didn't matter because nobody scored any points in the first quarter anyway. Kansas City for the win! Flatbed Ed OEM bump stop removed Installed driver side OEM bump stop
