I own a Chateau Club Wagon, all in all it's a wonderful vehicle. It's got plenty of room, 4 reclining, heated captains chairs, and a 3 piece fold down bench seat, loaded with just about every option available. Traveling in it is very, very comfortable, and a pleasure.
All that being said, I WANT AN EXCURSION!
I'm not sure I even know why I want it. I want a diesel, all wheel drive Excursion in black. I want a lift kit, 17" wheels with 40+" tires, spare tire mounted on the roof, with as much chrome as I could get on it!!!A winch, and gears as tall as the tires!!I could go on and on.
I'm a very conservative person, but I have a need for an Excursion!!!
you sound like me. My wife wanted a Suburban, but personally I can't stand any GM product. I started test driving used Excursions because of the very good price. I happened to go by the local Ford dealer one day and they had a PSD X. I drove it just for fun, I knew it was too much money for me to spend. I fell in love! I told my wife it was better than sex, she wasn't impressed. Then she drove it. Then she drove another burb, couldn't stand the burb after that and she let me buy her the X. Best decision I ever made, I've never had buyers remorse, not even once. She doesn't let me drive it very much though. And the price, after weeks of dickering they finally came around to my way of thinking.
I was originally looking at getting a new E-150 Econoline Traveler because my immediate family head count was growing. We needed a vehicle that had the cargo space to haul all the required baby equipment and our luggage for road trips. This vehicle also need to support my utility needs like hauling building and landscaping materials for the house. So, the Econoline was a perfect fit for our needs but this vehicle was going to be my daily driver and I could not get past the driver's cramped legroom in a van. The Excursion opportunity came along at the right time it was the right price, more comfortable to drive and fits all the requirements. Although, if I had a choice I would do with out the 4x4 because at 7000 Lbs there is plenty of traction.
We did that route. Last year afetr being a Ford Man all my life, I bought a Yukon XL. My reasons were that the X was too tall, too wide, harder to drive, on that darn 3/4 ton chassis, etc. The yukon had all the goodies..air ride, moon roof leather quads.
Well I absolutely hated it. It drove funky, squeaked rattled had a lousy sound system, and didn't do that well in the snow even with the Posi Traction.
Ok, I conceded and now have a wonderful Excusion that isn't too big, isn't too wide, drives wonderful, handles the snow, and has all the creature comforts I have come to enjoy from Ford Motor Co.
Fabtech, Superlift, Skyjacker and Procomp all make suspension lifts for the excursion. If you are going to have the suspension lift installed you may want the shop you choose to do the work also order the lift.
What size tires and wheels did you order? If they are small enough to fit with no lift installed you may not need or want to go with a lift. They can be costly and don't look all that good with tires smaller than say 35's on such a large truck. Just my opinion!
I was going to say that I'm gonna keep it at least until the ashtray is full! But after 8 months, I have just noticed I don't have an ashtray in the front! Is this normal? I don't smoke anymore but I thought it odd I would have a cigarette lighter but no ashtray..........
It's probably a $50 option! I had one, I took it out to put a small coin holder there. You don't get a coin holder with the console when you have a CD changer in it. Or at least I didn't...
I ordered a set of 42" tires. I'm supposed to go to the tire store in the morning to see if I want them. They had them at the warehouse, not the store, while I was there. I haven't committed to anything yet.
Originally I was looking for a set of 18" wheels and 42" tires to fit, but i couldn't find anything around here. So, it looks like it's gonna be 16's and 42's.
Your gonna need more than a lift kit. To go that big your gonna need a 8" suspension lift kit, a 3" body lift and probably a shackle lift.
or a custom lift with new springs etc.
But if ya got the $$$$$$$$$$$$$ go for it!
GOOD LUCK ... They look really sharp with those tires and lift!
