Long time lurker here been on my list to get a highboy for many years but just been busy with life and my other projects. I finally pulled the trigger on a patina harbor green 1969 Highboy with a 390-2V and have put quite a bit of work getting all the odds and ends sorted to make it a decent driver. My next order of business is getting rid of the hideous cracking highway tires it came with. While I am at it wanted to switch to the slotted wheels I see on a lot of these trucks in wimbledon white. I think these things looked perfect from the factory so trying to keep it looking very original. Wanted to see if the below are the correct fit for my lug pattern and if the hubcaps I have will fit. Will repaint once I get them.
One thing to know is 4wd's never came with 390's so do a stroke test unless you have the receipts. Remember Number Dummy's old saying: a 390 on sale day, 352/360 any other day. Another is that F-250 4wd's never had hubcaps in the front, so you must make a cutout for the axle hub with the dog dish hubcaps.
You don't have to pay big bucks for those wheels on ebay, if that was your thinking. F250 steelies pre-97, 8 on 6.5 are in every wrecking yard in America for cheap. Probably your local craigslist, too. $100 should get you a set.
I found mine at the JY for about $15 each. The rims are 16x6 with the 6.5 inch bolt pattern. The 16x7 are what comes on the vans up into the 2000 teens. I cant remember the exact year off hand.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah I bought it fully expecting it to be a 360 with a 390 sticker. Plan is to yank it out and stroke down the road. For now wanted to get it enjoyable and mechanically sound until the engine dies out. Will probably do a stroke test sometime to validate it.
I will find some time to hit up the junkyard and see what I can find, really appreciate the guidance! I have been spoiled with prior projects because of how much aftermarket and repro stuff there are for the Mustangs and Broncos. Excited to step into the bumpside world where you have to get creative and resourceful.
Here she is. Been just chasing all the little gremlins at this point and fixing the nuisances like the windows not rolling down, adding retro sound, remove destroyed dash pad, change windshield seals, etc.
Thanks. I really like the color combo. Boxwood green is awesome. Since it says that you live in Malibu. How's your HOA gonna feel about your truck. Some can be a real PITA.

Yeah Boxwood Green was my favorite color on these, had to ****** this one. When we were buying I made sure to have no HOA as I can't stand them. We have one here but their only authority is to prevent ocean view obstructions. That's the only authority they have so pick up truck is good. Love it here, but I am originally a Utah boy so the neighbors know my neck be reddish. My neighbors are all super cool though, they know I am into classics and they dig the cars. I will say though, none of them understand the appeal of patina. First reaction when I brought this home was "Nice new toy, you got a lot of work to fix the body up on this one like the others." When I was like hell no, this patina is perfect they just laugh. My wife thinks it's a piece of **** in her words. Ha ha ha!
Success I found three great 16X7 wheels off a 1996 E-350 van. $30 each. Someone had already taken the last one unfortunately. They had some older vans but they had the 16X6 wheels. There is a 1999 E-350 van with 16X7s on it. Would those fit, it looked like it was still the 8X6.5 found on these wheels I got. Wound up finding a mint drivers side door latch off an 1970 f-250 tow truck they had too so overall a great day. Excited to have a door I can open from the inside, and getting these powdercoated in Wimbledon White.
