Cool dam old ford

so in my travels under the hood of my 7.3 recently i discovered that the wire harness plugs to the under valve cover wire harness are one time use, if you pull them they are junk, let me explain, if you pull any of the individual wire contacts out of the plugs out of the plug itself and put it under a digital microscope you will notice a spring loaded contact under the base designed to dig into the contact post on the under valve cover wire harness tabs, you must replace pig tail every time you pull that plug to your valve cover. took 5 years and countless bucks to figure this out, if you have injector issues after replacement of all injectors i would replace the wire harness with ford only parts and make dam sure you covered everything before you plug in. once that spring loaded contact is used the load is less causing arcing and poor connections and must be replaced with a new plug using solder seal wire connectors, this is my battle, new injectors, new valve cover gaskets, new wire harness, all new sensors except map. so after all that forscan was kicking low/high on cyc#1 so i spliced it with a new contact from a new plug,#1 is good and now #7 is an issue, new plug coming soon, all this on the right side, driver side one time replacement and that side is fine because i never had to pull that plug after initial install. surly this frustrates everyone not just me. new pigtails are cheep and easy, you will need a heat gun before you make your attempt to fix this.

Good advice!

While this might be useful to someone in the "New Member Introductions" forum, many more people will see this and find it useful if you post it in the "1999 - 2003 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel" forum.

Welcome aboard!
