Engine harness amp draw
I'm getting 2mA pull from it isolating it. Trying to track down this phantom leak. It's not injectors or glow plugs, those were unplugged while testing. It's seeming like there is a short somewhere, cause I can pull 2mA off a frame ground also, but isolated out the other stuff to the engine harness.
This whole thing is annoying.
I just cannot find any obvious spots the harness would be shorting, unless there is a sensor that is, but I'm not getting any codes.
I don't need no more battery issues after the last crap and finally getting them replaced.
Douche at the new store tried to tell me they wont warranty batteries in powerstrokes...
I told the main distribution lady when I took them back in for dying again and she looked at me with a level of confusion I have not seen for a while.
So, don't need to overdraw a new set. But first night I left them in they dropped .6 volts from 12.60 to 11.99, not in the cold. And I'm getting a bit to much spark putting the terminals down than I should be.
So, if anyone knows what any of the key off amp draws are, that would be great.
I don't wanna move my truck till I find it either, because it seems like it's one of those comes and goes things too. Because after the last battery debacle and the guy "charging" them for me, they were fine for a few weeks then died again randomly. To which my charger still tried to overheat charging them or shut off.
Ugh. I'm so annoyed by this crap.
All that stuff is unhooked right now. i seperated the harnesses, i'm pulling it direct from the engine power harness.
And I don't have a wiring diagram which doesn't help me work on this.
But yeah, gonna pull the alternator stuff and test again, possible that the alternator has an internal short.
I'm really biffed about all of this, cause those other batteries did end up being bad. Just made no sense that they were. They wouldn't replacethem, and if they are overheating and mucking up my charger, then they were probably taxing the alternator really hard.
Which means that my nice bosh alternator I did have would have never died had the batteries not gotten an internal short which is what seems to have been happening. Floating garbage issue. Just.. hard to believe with new batteries. was far more common on older batteries.
Now you cant get those bosh alternators, and I'm stuck with a crapper reman from the parts store, so irritated by it still.
Been fixing to go out there and start unplugging stuff. I'ma pull them alternator wires and see if I still got my short, hopefully that's it, and thats a lot easier fix than some of the other issues you can have.
Shoulda seen the first run through, this is actualyl round 2. I forget that my meter is dual ac/dc unlike my old meters, and I was testing on Ac. *facepalm*
So after not finding anything in the fuse boxes, I figured the issue was a power cable ground, pulled starter, all the stuff, cehcked all those, blah blah, nothing. Redid it all, best i could for as bad as they are. Still test good though, so wahtever. I'm broke at the moment.
Got it all back together, and was like "oh, i've been using the meter on AC"
So I isolated everything again and finally found it in the engine harness.
if any terminal is corroded, it can make a battery act like a weak battery.
Mine would be dead in a week from sitting with old ones that had a .1 volt difference
new batts and I can go three months sitting.

2 brand new batteries.
I got the main distro hub to replace them after the "oh these are good" batteries randomly pooped again.
I thought it was a fluke and just one of those things. It happens, we leave stuff on sometimes, but it sat for 5+ days and ran fine. Then 2 days and dead again like before.
So, when that happened I finally got to the main distro and told her what was going on and the whole "we dont replace batteries out of powerstrokes" story the other guy tried to run on me.
Electrical is... just annoying, especially when you need it to not be. So, gonna get this baby warrantied again. Now I just gotta remember where I did this swap at for this one.
Been beign touchy with these batteries, after the first night seeing that big of a voltage drop I was like "nope, something isn't right."
Charged em back up yesterday with 0 issues on the charger.
Just pulled main power to alternator and the plugs, read 0 on the meter, touched the main power back and suddenly it was pulling voltage again.
hurrah! found it.
Thanks for that little tidbit, that was just what I needed.
I know they can short. but. didn't know if that was even on that harness circuit.
I really hate electrical. I can do it, but it's not my thing. I'd rather do circuit board repair.
I can visualize that stuff, the truck harnesses and such are a bit harder to deal with.

So, duno what exactly was shorted in the alternator, but the main power to the tiny single pin connector was shorted.
Not really sure how that shorts, but... whatever.
New one is correct. Hooked it all up and it had initial amp draw from the diodes, but then dropped to 0.
