Overall I love my F-150

I bought my 1997 F-150 v6 4.2 liter extended cab in 1998 with 30,000 miles. Now im at 169771 with little or no problems with it. I dont know if its good luck or good maintenence that keeps it going but strong. The only thing ive replaced on the the thing is the battery and spark plugs (too many times!!) since ive had it. Im replacing the drive belt tomorrow(long overdue but looks like in great shape!). Im worried that something has to give. It scares me that everything is going to fall apart all at once. Or am i just paranoid? The deal with my spark plugs is the first time I changed it my friend convinced me to put split fires( big mistake!) They lasted 3 months. Next a mechanic changed them to AC delco . In one month they burned all to hell!!! 6 months ago I put a set of bosch platinums. They did good until a month ago , it started missing again!!! So today i put a set of autolite platinums , lets see how they work!! Any suggestions???

Welcome to the Forum!

I think that you really don't have much to worry about if you've kept up in the regular maintence.

As far as plugs go, IMO, there are really only 2 plugs that I'll run in a Ford engine of any kind anymore, and they are Autolite Double Plats, and Motorcraft Double Plats.

I've monkeyed with those other "miracle plugs", and they are fine for 10-20k but after that they seem to really stink in a Ford motor.

I'd reccomend that you get the Motorcraft or the Autolite Dp's, they just last sooo much longer.....Especially if you had a 5.4L, like I do

The OEM's on newer trucks are suppsosed to be good 100K (from what I've heard).....I dunno about that.

I recently changed the OEM Motorcrafts in my 5.4L, they had about 70K on them, and they were getting fairly worn...maybe they would have made 100K, maybe not.

It just made me feel better.
