In Bed Fuel Tank Replacement

Currently have a Transfer Flow 37 gallon in bed tank. Using the Trax 3 system. Started getting weird messages on my cab gauge and called Transfer Flow. Evidently they have upgraded to a newer Trax 4 system which isn’t compatible. I do need to state they have been outstanding to work with and did find a retuned computer module on the shelf. Currently reprogramming to meet my truck’s specs but can’t guarantee how long it would last.

My question is what is everyone using if I need to replace the tank?

I have a 50 gallon tank with electric pump and transfer manually. Cost a lot less than a plumbed-in system and is more versatile.

Fast question. How does this affect your fuel gauge and distance to empty on your dash?

thank you

It’s a completely separate tank, so no interaction with the truck. I was just pointing out that a separate system is a lot cheaper and more versatile. When it’s empty I can even load and unload it myself, and it only takes two straps to secure to the bed.

This is the approach I would take, should I have a need for additional fuel. Should I ever trade up the tank goes with me to the newer truck.

Going to pursue this approach.

A new Transfer flow is slightly under $1800 for 37 gallons not including freight and installation.

Thanks all for the advice.

I use a 45 gallon tank from ATTA. It has a gauge, fuel sending unit, 12v pump and a momentary switch to transfer fuel to the OEM tank.

The pump is readily available at most parts stores. The sending unit and gauge are compatible with generic units available at parts stores. I know this because I needed to replace the gauge and sending unit and did not go to ATTA for the parts.

I have thought about swapping the momentary switch out with a timed switch, but after several years of using it this way, I have not been bothered.

Having positive control over fuel flowing from one tank to another is important to me and why I opted for this method instead of a gravity fed system.

It is nice to have 900 miles of range with the 5th wheel attached to the truck.

75 gallon transfer tank gravity flow into the 2022 F350, took getting used to, it is slow, I wait until I'm at 1/2 tank and open the valve to refuel while traveling I had a 90 gallon with a pump in my 2015 and it had pluses, faster refueling and I could draw fuel for my shop heater.

Just curious what did you use for a manifold in the filler neck?

This was the gravity kit I used, not sure why it would not work with a pump like Sous siad.

I used a gravity feed back back in 2009 with the little check ball in the neck. Worked fine but I am thinking of using a pump based system now, didn't know if he used the same filler neck check value with a tank return up stream or used a dual barb set up like this:

I used an adapter similar to what rufushusky posted. I have a 2000 7.3L PSD, though the plumbing parts may be slightly different, the overall function and concept are the same as your newer 6.7L.

A friend of mine like the gravity feed option, but also wanted more control over the valve than a simple hand turn. He wired up a 12v solenoid to control a valve leaving it in the open or closed position.

I hope this helps.
