I’m trying to decide between 15 and 17” wheels. I have stock suspension but do have front discs. If anyone has good pictures of 17s on your truck with or without mods, I’d love to see them.
great look - what have you done to your suspension?
the front had a chevy chevelle frame clip installed and the rear is leaf springs with posies springs and lowering shackles and brackets from mid fifty.
? when you have mixed front and rear do you carry 2 spares or does one spare fit both?
Ed, I have a spare in my 54 in the stock position but it is only for looks, not for actual use. If I have a flat on the road I'll call AAA. Besides the spare is a bias ply that was on the truck in 1998 before I got the truck fixed up and painted. I do not know how long it was on before then. If I recall correctly I bought new tires only once between 1977 and 1999.
What does AAA do when you call them for a flat? How about if you get a flat at Hyner View?
I had a tread separate in Portsmouth Ohio at Ts14. 525 miles from home with widowmakers
Are you sure? When I was stuck out on Interstate 80, I had a hard time finding towing operators that were answering their phones let alone available to come out and help me. It took $400 cash to finally get someone to come for a 3 mile tow.

No. I am going on personal experience.
My '54 left me sit once near Lock Haven. AAA sent a roll back and he brought it to my house. Another time my 70 F350 flatbed had a blow out. The bang scared the heck out of me and my wife. AAA sent a roll back to pick it up and take it to a nearby tire store of my choice.
Truth be told, I knew the roll back driver. Matter of fact the F350 had a 12' bed. He said he was not supposed to haul something so big but he did for me and Coral as a favor. Coral had his child in preschool. However, he no longer works for that towing company.
A helpful truck driver gave me a list of 4 or 5 numbers to call for a tow. None of these providers bothered picking up their phones. He gave me several other numbers of truck repair places. From this group, I was able to make contact with a phone operator for a big truck repair outfit. The operator (Stephanie) said she would get a tow for me. An hour or so latter she called back to say the best she could do was someone willing to come for $1,000. It wasn't dark yet, so I passed on this offer.
When it was dark, I called Stephanie back--desperate now--and the best she could do for me was send out some of her guys with a service truck with big flashing lights. As it turned out, one of the service truck guys knew a guy that he was able to get out of bed and come for $400 cash.
...so Abe maybe it does come down to who you know when it comes to getting help out on the road. I'd carry a spare just in case no one at AAA is picking up the phone when you happen to call. I've made 6 long trips and 30% of the times I've needed a spare.
