I was thinking of touching up the chrome trim lines on my glove box woodgrain trim. I thought an easy way of doing this would be to use a chrome paint marker. There are lots of inexpensive options out there. Does anyone have recommendations on a product that looks good and is relatively permanent?
I've tried the chrome paint several times and had very little luck making it look good. the bright silver seems to look and last better. and the durability is zero, you have to clear coat it and then it usually peels off in time. but you could try it , it'll last a while .
The chrome pen looks nice, but that finish is on slick rubber boot in the pic right? So maybe clean up you glove box panel old chrome edge before you apply the new pen? And let us know how you like it. Same idea for the dash bezel chrome edge, that fades over time. So if it works on the glove box part might as well be ready to do the dash bezel.
@landandstone where did u find your vinyl weave green seat cover? Or is it original? I have a ‘77 dark jade F-100 Ranger with same seat and it has a few splits. I found a place in CA but they do not offer that color and a bottom seat cover runs $900! Thank you
I used the Testors paint pen on my 81 F100 but I was just looking to make it look good nothing like the factory chrome and think it turned out good.

I've use the thin chrome pinstripe tape for trim like that before. Since it's meant for the exterior, it has really good adhesive and is meant to stand up to weather, so it lasts forever in an interior. Clean the surface with acetone before putting it on and it will just about bond with the plastic.
sbilby: That’s OG vinyl. Sounds like you found SMS. They are the only game in town. $900 is a good deal if you want OEM.
As for chrome marker, I plan to lightly Scotch pad the trim to rough it up. Then try marker. I think mirror gloss would stick out like a chicken in socks so hoping for a nice silver to brighten things up.
If you can find the right width chrome mylar tape, or even if it's a hair wider ... worth a try. Use a new razor blade with tape on the side and trim flus with edges maybe.
You could call Dennis Carpenter and ask them what their paint guy uses on their reproduction parts. When I ordered door panels, DC had to have paint guy put the chrome on them.
I had a video come up in my "recommended" list the other day of a guy with a similar problem in a Chevelle, I think it was. He was trying silver leaf to fix it. I didn't watch the video to see how it turned out. No idea how expensive that might be. Or if there might be cheaper leaf options that could work. But it's a thought.
