Hi all,
I'm wondering what engine I've got in the F100 I bought recently. It's a '77 2WD F100 SWB and the VIN suggests it's a 250 CID 6cyl.
It is indeed a 6cyl, but suspect I;ve got either a 240 or a 300 that was swapped in from something else.
Understood that the stamping on the block isn't definitive, but was hoping that someone could help me decode it?
From my read it's:
D1AE-6013-CA
It's possible that both the 6 and the 3 above, may in fact be an 8....
In the coming weeks, I'll take the head off and measure the stroke to be sure - but before then grateful for any ideas.
Thanks @jflem . I'm not sure if this is the original motor. I should have noted that this is an Australian F100; and I believe these came out with different engines....?
The VIN plate suggests a 250, which would put it on par with that of an XB falcon - or a TC Cortina, but the engine doesn't look like what those came out with (key elements like where the dizzy is and the valve cover are different).
Attached are some photos (ignore the wiring, I'm tracing an ignition issue and have bypassed the existing loom):
@ oztruckin there is a whole Ford 300 I5 over here if you haven't been there yet. With your hed off you made it easier to ID your I6 motor. The stroke is 3.18 for 240, and 3.98 for 300.
The "Cortina and the Aussie "Falcon" those were the days

Thanks @redroad - I've not come across that subforum, so will make some enquiries over that way as well.
In my earlier post I'd failed to note that my calcs put this as a 300 by way of the stroke measurement (roughly 3.98" (but we go by metric down here).
I was also incorrect in saying that the combustion chamber is D-shaped; I was looking at the dishing on the pistons. The head has kidney shaped combustion chambers, so I'm guessing I've got the magic combination of 300 bottom end and a 240 head....

That would be great if you have the 240 head The headrs on the motor shows me someone was definitely striving to get what they could out of the motor.
The wife and I are big fans of your Australian TV series "Mystery Road". Great entertainment. Tere's an old Falcon driven by detective "Jay Swan" in the latest "Mystery Road series. They were such great cars. Tested in Australia's outback.

Oh yeah? I wasn't sure if they were factory or if it's aftermarket...
I'm getting the feeling that this car is unique - either someone started some tuning on the engine or it was something special out of Ford Aus (perhaps a dealership fleet car or something).
Eitherway, my plans have increased almost as much as my imagination.
Yes, Mystery Road is excellent - the movies (Goldstone & Mystery Road are equally good). Some decent cinema coming out in Australia these days....

I see what you mean now, the stock exhaust manifold is much more.....flat!
Question to you and the gang - does the inlet manifold look stock? Forgive the silly questions but I'm trying to piece together understanding on a model of car that I've not had experience with before (owning this one at least).
Some info suggests that this is an edelbrock manifold, but I'm not sure. There's no stampings on the manifold that suggests that, but it does seem to be similar to this one listed by @old28 ...
Can confirm that it's only single port, NOT dual. Will try to upload photos later.
