Hulleywoodworking.....The bowling ball trick was a great idea. I don't have a bowling ball but I think I can come up with something similar. That is a very nice looking red headliner!
I am hopeful that when I get finished with mine it will look that nice. Great job. It is always fun doing something that you have never had to do before and having it come out looking good.
I guess the old dogs can still be trained....LOL

I didn't have a bowling ball either. I actually used a large crystal ball left over from a job I did years ago. Any large, heavy round object will do.
That turned out great! I don't see any screws, what did you use to retain the edges? What do you have going around the rear window? I'd love to know where you got your material.
I used plastic "Christmas tree" stem push in clips that I installed into the plastic before I covered it.
I made a frame out of aluminum to fit around the opening. It tucks under the rubber glass retainer. I only did that because I trimmed too much off of the plastic and had an uneven gap.
Ok....so where would one go to get a crystal ball?
Just wondering.........
Actually, I had a customer who wanted newel post finials using 6" diameter crystal ***** that she provided. Of course, I managed to scratch 2 of them, setting me off on a search for replacements. Leaving me with 2 slightly defective crystal *****.
I have often wondered why they don't reproduce the Deluxe Cab perforated headliner. No actually I do know. It's all about making a profit.
I'm glad my 54 is a Standard Cab.
Not exactly for sure certain. I have an idea in my head that's been kicking around for a long time, but not enough real world experience with vinyl and upholstery to know if it's feasible. It would entail pre-stretched vinyl to fit into the corners on the sides, then cut straight and sew a section of perforated vinyl in the center. Or maybe don't sew the pieces together and just overlay the sides against the perf'd center. I think it can be done with the right material, and easier with a Rod Doors ABS part to start with and glue to than the cardboard stuff. Seeing Hulley's gave me inspiration.
They make perforated cardboard headliners for the 61-66 and 67-72 trucks, but those pieces aren't big enough to use for the Bouns Built's. The original cardboard headliners for the 48-52's are multiple pieces, and very different between 48-50 and 51-2, but the aftermarket replacement is all encompassing and one piece with folds on the ends. You even have to cut out the window hole for the "big window" 51-2 trucks. They're fine and look reasonable to most people, but I know they can be done better/more correctly if they wanted to. It goes back to that money thing you alluded to. I think what bothers me most about them is they're advertised as a correct, as-original replacement, and they're not.
I hear you, Wayne. Because they are in business to make money, they could care less about words like stock, original , factory correct. They call the grey cardboard as stock factory for 53-56 but not for Custom Cabs. The stock original cardboard had a grain to it. Shiny stainless hubcaps called stock for 48-56. And my big pet peeve, the little round chrome mirrors called stock original for 53-56. They did not come out until '57. Oh well ...

I have the Rod's headliner also. Originally mounted vinyl authentic imitation vinyl black leather to it. Obviously didn't use the correct spray adhesive, as it only stayed on the ABS about an hour. Pulled off the vinyl and just went with the Rod's "naked" looks pretty decent. I have the corners and back piece also...that's on the list for this winter.
Bob.I'm in Ocala. .My truck came with the entire cardboard kit including headliner, door panels and the piece behind the seat. I've had it since 2004 and no issues with warping etc. Altho I dont drive mine for the 6 months of heat we have so it sits in the garage fulltime and not driven in the rain. I do run a dehumidifier in the garage for m y cars too. Strictly a cruiser out in the country on cool days.
I ordered my headliner panel behind seat and kick panels back in November for my ‘56, they sent me kick panels for a 67 bronco, tool another 2–3 weeks to get correct ones, im
sti waiting for the rest, spoke to Blane and he told me they moved from California to Wisconsin and he’s finally set up, that was 2. Weeks ago and still waiting, kick panels are definitely nice, hopefully they will show up soon
