So I'm doing some maintenance/upgrades on both trucks and in finishing up the Excursion I noticed some dye around the high pressure switch. It's had a slow leak for a bit and I added some refrigerant with dye last spring. It looks like it's leaking at the switch, but could also be coming from the crimp in the hose. If I recall, these switches can be removed without depleting the refrigerant from the whole system. Once removed, I think there is an o-ring which can be replaced instead of having to buy a new switch. I'd like to do this first before going through the entire system for now if this is the case...
Replace the hose, it's almost always the problem, and yes you can remove the pressure switch and refrigerant won't come out as there is a valve in there.
Okay, thanks guys...so I guess it's more likely the hose crimp. Looks like I'll be going through the a/c system when I get a chance in a couple of months...

I had the same leak.....replaced the hose completely. Those crimps leak....but it took 20yrs to leak so I swapped with another Motorcraft hose. Hope it lasts 20yrs too

Did you replace anything else...like the orifice filter...while you had it apart?

yep...bought all the hoses and the orifice filter. Figured I might as well replace while the system was open. The shop that recharged my system said the old filter looked new so I just kept it. I was changing out my AC condenser anyway, so even that is new. Compressor was fine so that wasnt updated.
