Cab Step

Has anyone ever come across a step like this before? Looks like it was made by a local company that doesn't seem to be in business anymore. I actually enjoy this step but the problem is there isn't one on the passenger side and I need to assist the lady getting in.

I wouldn't mind putting something similar on if I could find a pair but the closest I can find are they small bars of similar width and they just look like ankle breakers in this rainy state to me.

Looks similar to the Carr brand as well. They were out of the Los Angeles area, but I’m not sure if they are still around either.

I thought about those once, then I saw a bruise on the owner's shin he got just trying to clean the windshield. That thought lasted about that long.

For a number of years, I had aluminum running boards. Last couple years, been using Carr Super Hoops. A little longer than some, but no abrupt ends to hit, and I added a brace back to the floor. I bought mine off Ebay, NIB, from an estate. The two arms will keep wet shoes from sliding off the end too. Just smooth round edges too.

Thats the ankle breaker looking step Im talking about. I may be paranoid but I just see my foot going right through the middle of the that thing somehow.

I think the greater chance is off one end, or just hitting a corner of those others. These CARR #124032 Super Hoop steps sit out further than the old running boards, and Wife loves them. They have a real aggressive pointy surface too. I just post these pics as this may come up in searches.

I made my own hanger brackets that bolt to the pinch weld to "hinge" my steps from, and the long black steel piece seen below that keeps the step from swinging inwards goes to the floor above the frame.

I chose not to have them simply cantilevered off the pinch weld, and so I only used a pivot bolt like method.

The extra two stainless steel 5/16 bolts in view secure a lengthwise piece of steel to spread load, then the strut piece seen bolts at the center with a flush sunk head 3/8 bolt. It's why the bottom shows black paint, I added extra paint to the steel after assembly. It's not a "show truck".

I mean that's probably what I'm gonna end up going with in the end is what I'm gathering, I wasn't too hopeful but thought MAYBE there was a chance someone knew of something similar still on the market or sitting in someone's garage somewhere.

Bonking my shin is one thing by I would be trading for the possibility my diabetic butt will done goof and win the stupid lottery.

Oh, I understand the concern. I was not sure how we'ld like these, but we both love them. They go well with some hand holds on the windshield posts. These are some aluminum ones found on Amazon, they are black, but I sanded and polished the top. I used 1/4-20 bolts from under the rubber through holes into the truck, and nuts inside the recesses, I did put a larger ss washer under them after bending a lip on the edge. Very solid and not in the way. It was too easy for Wife to have her grasp of the windshield pillar slip. I use it too instead of the steering wheel, or with the steering wheel.

And I was not throwing off on the ones you want, just offering alternative ideas.

Too easy to have a big clot after an injury. Take care ....

oh no worries friend I appreciate all the help. The PO owner actually put what looks like a silverado handle above the glovebox. This will get removed one day when I find the wood trim that goes there. Its odd they put that handle there but not a step on that side. Im guessing they used the wheel to grab and get in on the drivers side with the step which isn't great for the column.

My first plan is/ was to find the same step I have now and put it on the passengers side. Will probably have to get new ones for both sides when I can afford it sounds like. I never cared for the longer bars or the flat and wide running boards.

Second plan was to find a nice set of handles for the pillars which I've learned are also expensive.

When I do figure out what Im gona do I'll probably come back and reference your information so its definately appreciated.

Get a little bit heavier version of this one and washer or plate reinforce the back side of the dash.

OEM steps

Make/design your own and make them or get them made.

A little shorter version.

Grab handle idea.

What ever you do for the step if attached to the rocker panel. Stainless steel hdwr, a reinforcement bracket or extra brace. A step attached to frame is better IMO.

This truck is the only reference I could find online so I know I'm not the only one.

Thanks fren, whatever I take apart on this truck I make it a habit to replace the old hardware with fresh hardware if I can. Stainless where I can and G8 for any load bearing hardware. I don't trust old hardware as rusty stuff doesn't conduct as well, even if it isn't rusted metal fatigue is still a thing. I've already had to use the buzzy saw to get the alt off, an end link off, some random phillips screws out, headlight screws, etc.

Yup those Idaho ones look exactly the same and the other poster has the exact same ones. Maybe its time I take a trip to a local yard, been on my list for some time now just always busy traveling for work.

Just not sure about which yard to visit here in WA for these old trucks. I know they have a killer place down in Oregon outside of the Portland area but I haven't been down there for work in about a year and its usually a 4 hour drive to get down there from Everett and 5-8 coming back.

I have one of the swing out "factory" ones on the passenger side. I like it as it is bigger and closer to where you would want it when getting in. If you find a yard in Washington, let us know. I'm about a mile south of the west runway at Seatac.

I know there is a pull apart up in Arlington and another poster that lives up there. I'll axe him and see what he knows.

You can set up a search at row52.com that will search all of the pick a parts in the US. This is the result for 74-79 F100's No other models show up in that year range.
