I need to replace my trackbar mount on my Ex (factory one is rusted out).
I purchased the PMF suspension trackbar mount repair bracket. I don't see any pictures on their website of it fully installed, but they mention in their description that it needs to be welded on and the old bracket needs to be ground off/reworked. Does anybody have any pictures of repairs that they have performed? I'm confident I can do the work, and I'm pretty good at welding and have the appropriate machine to perform this work, but I have never replaced one of these mounts, so if I can find any reference material or guidance on the matter that would be awesome.
All that I can think of that is important besides a good welding job is the proper placement of the bracket. I would take measurements to reference points for the hole location for the bar and proceed from there. If their bracket is made slightly different won't hurt a thing as the most important dimension is the lateral position of the hole to achieve the same radial tracking that you have now. Really, if your track bar is in good condition and the bracket you have on the truck now hasn't moved, you could probably just bolt it to the new bracket to swing it into place to position it correctly and tack weld it before the final welding process. Welding success always depends on proper preparation. I can't stress this point enough. Making sure that you're down to bare metal and that the bracket is prepped correctly with NO PAINT is very important. Hopefully you are proficient at out of position welding as the techniques for proper penetration and strength are different than welding on a level and flat surface. One last thing. Don't forget to disconnect your batteries so as not to fry your electronics. That's all I've got, good luck!
Sorry, no pictures or experience with a new bracket installation.
I assume this is the axle end of the track bar mount. The factory axle end brackets are known to sometimes rust out and or crack.
What old mechanic ^^^^ said and keep your ground clamp as close to the weld location as possible.
