This seems very expensive to me, but I thought I'd ask the opinions of others that may have faced this to see if it's excessive. I have an 2015 F250, 6.7L, stock, with 146K miles. I always fill the DEF when I get the warning it's getting low. This time the truck began to feel sluggish changing gears, especially between 1st and 2nd. No low DEF warning showing. Suddenly the "Exhaust Filter Over Limit Service Now" message appeared on the dash. I also have the wrench symbol come up. I took it to the local Ford dealer and they completed a pcm update and manual dpf regen. It was still sluggish shifting gears when I picked it up. They claim they did a test drive and it was working fine. I brought it back to them saying the problem still persists and the error message came back. After looking at it again, they say I need a complete DPF system replacement and are quoting the replacement at $9,110. I know these parts aren't cheap, but does this sound excessive?
That's a dealership for you,,,, ready,, aim ,,,fire the parts cannon at it !!! Cost,,,,who cares about cost, the customer is paying for it.
Google DPF cleaning service. There are a bunch near me (greater San Antonio TX area), mostly they do fleet stuff (garbage trucks, school buses , etc) but they can clean the DPF of anything.
...
Can you get rid of it and tune out the regen? (dependent on your emission testing)
The days of DPF deletes are kinda gone.
Our tyrannical EPA has been suing / fining companies out of business and sending people to prison for the crime of making trucks get better fuel economy and last longer in the past few years.
The mighty arm of censorship caused by threats of fines / imprisonment by the EPA is felt on this forum as even talking about DPF deletes is banned. Because you know, it’s a free country with freedom of speech, until you want to talk about something they disagree with.

Yea, I've heard a lot of that going on. That, along with getting deleted off youtube or social media for "misinformation"
1984, unfortunately. There are ways to get around the DPF in states where testing isn't visual, if any still exist, by owner removing it and playing stupid.
$9,000.00?? That's better than when the scum sucking bottom feeders stole my entire exhaust system out from under my truck when I was parked at a hotel one night, $15,000.00 to replace everything from the down pipe to the rear axle. 8 days in the shop waiting on parts to arrive.
I would check on the DPF cleaners also before dropping the money for new. You can also search on line and possably find a good used one, send it to be cleaned then swap the components.
I know I'll open the "DEBATE" about the EPA and I really do dislike them also, I work in the power industry as well as the Oil & Gas industries.
That being said it has become a necessary evil as to many people have and would be operating cars and trucks dumping tons of crap in the air. I'm old enough to remember when the old cars didn't even have PCV valves and had the old road draft tubes dumping crank case vents on the road as they drove down the streets. When the inversions hit southern California back in the late 60s and early 70s you could feel and even sometimes taste the crap in the air, my eyes used to feel like they were full of sand.
Unfortunately most people that do delete's actually then drive their vehicles harder than they should that they actually cause damage to the engine internals and the engines don't last as long. I also worked as a light and medium duty truck mechanic for several years.
Next time it pouring a%# rains…take it for a two hour drive in the rain…you notice granular deposits at the exhuast pipe…this doesn’t do a 100% clean…but enough
They are not cheap. The place I work for sends DPF's out for cleaning first before replacing unless it is going to be a warranty repair. If the dpf is bad then we try to source it from the aftermarket if not warranty. Still cots us alot just to get the dpf let alone the labor to install one in the shop. I would say look around for a place that can clean the dpf before replacing it.

There are companies that will purge and flush a dpf system if its removed. Ive also seen forced regins done that take about an hour that will burn off the soot.
