when you go to install it
use a long screw driver in the bolt hole to align it up
i used a 1x4 across the leafs to use as a lifting area and put some blocks under while i lifted it alone
Bought the blue top, high pressure line, in line filter for low pressure side. which fluid do you recommend using to refill the power steering with? Working on this today. Thanks
Low runs from that 'cooler' pipe on the cross member back to the reservoir. Just install there, size is probably 3/8" or 5/16". If you really work the truck, an external cooler added cannot hurt. Heck, could probably snag one from the junkyard if you wanted.
Fluid wise? Unsure. ATF I believe is what these were spec'd to run. Mine has PS fluid I think
Got it in today. A lot of cleaning since old gear box and high pressure line have been dripping. Hardest part for me was getting the new moog pitman arm on. Put in an inline filter on the return. Did I mention, so much degreaser and scrubbing. Right when I was about done the Fedx truck showed up with my new moog cc844s springs. Ordered the isolators on eBay. So i was able to save myself some time with completing everything thing at once. I forgot to take a pic of the blue top next to my oem. But man was that thing caked with grim. Oh yeah, used valvoline LV, couldn’t find Mobil 1.
Nasty fluid. Easier to take off than put the new ones on. Old high pressure line was sliding in and out. Cleaned pump housing for awhile to get it to this point. Return cooler line with new in line filter. Inline filter add. Arrived just in time. Moog was a little longer but oem coils were worn likely. Before After. Was a bit of pain but had to use the spring compressor on the new moog to get in. Part # for extra heavy duty over 8600#.
I used a Ford Motorcraft rebuild from Rock Auto, it doesn’t leak or have any play in it, so far so good. The original lasted 260k, if this lasts that long I’ll have gone on to my reward by then and it’ll be somebody else’s problem. My old one is there underneath 29 years of oil and dirt
