I'm planning on doing a Cummins swap in my 84 F250. I bought a complete donor truck a couple weeks ago, a 96 Dodge with a 12 valve P pump. My 84 currently has a 460 with a ZF. I plan on reusing the ZF with an adapter plate and the original 460 radiator but I'll somehow need to stuff an intercooler in front of the radiator while keeping my AC functional. From everything I've read so far it can be done but its not going to be easy. But I can't find much info on what intercooler to use. The stock Dodge one from the donor truck looks way too wide. I've heard the 6.0 Powerstroke or a first gen Dodge intercooler can be made to fit, but I was wondering if anyone here who has done the swap could provide some info.
How bout an intercooler from a 7.3 super duty? Lots of people add them to the OBS 7.3 Powerstrokes, as they didn't come factory equipped with one & they seem to fit pretty well. I think the 92-97 front clip & core support is similar to the bull nose?

Similar but the 92+ aeronose is more rounded and sticks out farther than the 80-86 trucks. On the 80-86 trucks the back of the grill and the stone deflector are much closer to the AC condenser and radiator. From what I've read its a challenge to install one but nobody seems to have a preference for what fits best. I looked online and the 7.3 and 6.0 coolers are pretty close in dimensions, the 7.3 being slightly thinner.
Why are you trying to match something that was never offered stock from the factory?
Just measure your available space behind the grill, and order the largest intercooler you can find that fits the space. Done.
