new excursion

Hello all... I just picked up a leftover 2001 V10 Excursion Limited. I am familiar with the Ford Heavy Duty platform as I picked up an 02 F250 SD SC SB 5.4L last summer and traded it for the X. I am familiar with the break in period but i was wondering if there was anything specific you guys might be able to tell me to watch for or not to do. I loved my SD but the X is even nicer (IMO) and i prefer the V10 also. I've been reading this board for a few months now and it is very informative and enjoyable. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Thor......

Well, one thing I would suggest if you haven't already done so is to remove your crossbars for the roof rack. They will undoubtly cause scratches leading to premature corrosion.

Monsta... Should i take all of them off? I did not look too closely but i think there is 4 of them on there. I have read alot of your posts and I am very impressed with your knowledge of the X's and SD's. If there is anything else you can think of please let me know. Here is a few more questions for you.

1. Did they offer the auto headlights on the 01 X? My 02 SD was the XLT package and it had them. I figured that since the X is the Limited it would have had them also.

2. Not that it a big deal but the 02 also had the auto lock feature at 5 MPH. The 01 X does not. Ford has been putting them on different vehicles for years. How come not on the Limited X for 01?

Thank you for the reply.

Have a nice Sunday.....

Yes there are 4. Just to clarify for you and Omnimax, the smaller 2 just unscrew via the tie downs. The larger ones will slide off either forward or to the rear. (Your choice) When you remove them you will inevitably see scratches already forming.

Thank you. I try. :-)

The the auto-lock feature is new for '02. Why they would wait is beyond me. To tell you the truth I would have rather them put head rests on the third seat. I woulda gone out and bought the seat tomorrow.

The auto light is an accessory that the dealer can install. But is standard now. (On certain trim levels)
