Going to look at 2 Super Duty’s. One is a gas. Other is 2011 6.7. 190k on it. Supposedly, previous owner did a ton of engine work to it before he traded it in. Any way to know what got done? Anything to look for other than new parts? Truck is immaculate inside and out.
If the owner did a ton of engine work before he traded, why the trade. He never got his money back from the work. Perhaps after throwing all the time and money at it, it still wasn't right, so he dumped it before it exploded. Just something to think about
The owner should have a "ton" of receipts to show the parts replaced. Get copies and come back here for us to review. Personally I don't want anything that was molested because I don't trust others to do the work properly.

He supposedly purchased new. Maybe the dealer is just talking about engine work to make it sound better. I haven’t seen under the hood yet so I really don’t know.

Thats pretty much where I’m at. Even if he did the work himself, I would think he would have receipts to back it up. Just really in the fence because I really like the truck.

I can get out of there for under $20k. Given the pictures I have seen, the options it has and the available warranty, I’m ok with it. Turbo and CP4 worry me though.
Make sure its not an early build 2011 or has bad exhaust valves. This is not a maybe, this is a definite. All early builds, as in the build date is 2010, then it has bad exhaust valves that develop cracks then eventually break and take out the engine. Mine let go at 280k miles while driving with the family home late one Sunday night. Just cruising along and pop, then smoke. $12,500 later and a new long block I was back on the road. And I took meticulous care of that engine, always using Schaeffer's synthetic oil. Anyone who says it doesn't effect all early builds hasn't done any research.
If you must have it, get a warranty that will cover the engine cost, not just XXX amount because these things are pricey.

I have pretty much moved on from it. It’s a beautiful truck but turbo and CP4 issues concern me. I wasn’t aware of the valve issues. I’d love a diesel but there’s a reason I’ve never owned one.
