looking to replace my leaf springs, bushings, shocks and gear box.
i know for sure that i am getting a redhead box.
my springs, bushings and shocks are shot. i do not want a lift kit
anyone know of a good replacement kit that has everything ?
let me know what you guys think.
did a full replacement of the pit-min arm, drag link, tie rods and ends about 50.000 miles ago
after adjusting the gear box over time it has about 1/8 turn play
i know a few years ago several of us went in on a package deal for new redhead box's but i had to back out. i remember it was a very good deal because there was like 6+ being ordered.
Haven't driven the truck much lately because of the drift.
at one time, OEM springs were reasonably priced new from an online ford dealer. There used to be some vendors from forums that could also get them for good prices.
shocks, that's a personal preference, many options.
I have a redhead steering box from years ago, great unit, but many say their quality has gone downhill and most prefer the blue tops now. the guy making the blue tops used to work at redhead
I have heard some bad things about redhead as well. More about customer service after the fact than anything. As far as suspension goes I would call Junior at ATS suspension I believe it's called. Super nice guy and always willing to answer questions.
On edit: it's ATS springs
I developed a significant amount of front end play. Adjusted the steering box a few times and made a small diff but not enough. With 130k miles on them i Replaced the entire tie rod drag link system with a complete moog set up. Next replaced the steering box with a blue top. All helped a noticeable amount but did get it all out. Found the issue was in the steering shaft opinion. Really to test with a buddy wiggling the wheel while you watch the split section for any play between the two shafts.
amazingly ford had one in stock in an updated p/n. Changed the design for the better too.
wound up replacing my rear leaf spri gs due to a broken spring. Purchased the entire assy with hardware from ats. Super helpful people , took time to answer all my questions, with shipping they were $100 cheaper then a local shop. After replacing the rear I could really tell the front was weaker. Ford looked up my front spring via the vin. What they sent fit but was worse then my 130k miles springs ! Turned out that there were only 6 springs left in stock In a hub in missiouri. Also turned out they were all stamped wrong and prob the reason they still had them lol called ats and they said they were probably excursion springs mis marked as they were too soft off the show room floor. They put together an add a leaf kit that fit the bill dead on! Mine is a 99 f350 drw 4x4 manual. Ill use ats from here on out based on past experience but thats just my opnion.
