I read about a cracked tail light that caused lots of issues with water causing blind spot, cross traffic alert along with other systems to fail. A new tail light cost $ 4,200.00. I have a small crack in one of mine at the very bottom. Hope some clear silicone works
$4200 with diagnostics, a new light assembly, a new BLIS sensor and install. Yeah it's crazy, saw that on YouTube.
The BLIS sensors rarely fail. and if they did, I would just remove them and do without the system as I find it only marginally useful. Not anywhere near worth the expense. The only reason I have BLIS is because I found the truck already in stock when I bought it.
If or when one of my expensive factory tail lights fail, I will replace them with a set of these.
Usually, I'd suggest searching nation wide when looking for parts for a classic vehicle (like my 86 Ford F250). But hopefully the latest generation trucks are easier to find in the salvage yard. If you do find some locally, I wouldn't be surprised if they price their taillights close to the price of the new ones Brad linked.
I probably would stay away from silicone, personally, I'd take a toothpick and apply superglue to it. Thin enough to weep into the crack (or possibly windshield repair glue)
Pull the light out and dry it out. Find the end if the crack and drill a very small hole there, it will keep the crack from spreading. Get some Super Glue with a needle point applicator and squeeze some into the crack. After that, sprinkle some baking soda on the glue and it harden instantly.
You can find used tail lights without the BLIS sensors for a few hundred dollars each. Who knows how many miles that light has been in service. I wouldn‘t chance it.
Yeah, the video you watched, while Makukloco is a great tech, is a definately inflated price.
Not that they're cheap, just not $4200 unless you need to pay for someone to find the problem.

I am assuming if you removed the BLIS you would get error codes and/or dashboard warning lights that may or may not be able to be addressed in Forscan or another means.

I would think those lights would need to be programed in to the vehicle. It's CAN Bus situation.
