I have a 2005 F150 SuperCrew Lariat 5.4. I've had it since 2010 and right now it has 220k miles on it. the transmission just dumped all the fluid and I don't want to put anymore money into this truck, ready to sell it. I'm wondering what you guys think it's worth? Body is in excellent shape, no rust. It had just passed PA inspection a month ago.
You can try putting your information in Kelley Blue Book. But from a real world perspective, A buyer is looking at the obvious repairs, and worried about other hidden repairs to follow. Not to mention whatever deferred maintenance.
I don't want you to get your feelings hurt. You have a 19 year old truck. It needs a transmission service. Who knows what the transmission shop will find. It may need a new transmission. And then there's the rest of the drivetrain to consider. F-150s are known to have issues with the engine. Plus whatever other small knick knacks that come with these trucks.........
Your truck may be worth more in parts. As a real world buyer, meaning that after I buy it, I still need to fix it....... you will get a lot of offers below what you think your truck should be worth.
IMHO, If it were me and given the pricing on new vehicles combined with the QA issues (known) and assuming there are no other major issues with the truck, I would purchase a reman engine and trans from Powertrain products..... for around $5,800 I now have a new drivetrain with warranty. If you are going to pay a mechanic to install, ok another $1k. but, it's still a good investment imho as compared to selling what ya got for $3k or so and then either buying new or someone else's used vehicle with issues.
I wonder why his transmission was puking fluid out the front seal. or what he was doing when it happened.
I can only guess the transmission was overheated during severe duty...
