Hi everyone.
I have a 72 F250 camper special 2WD that I want to convert from manual to power steering. I have found a donor truck at a junk yard but have a question regarding the steering column. I've read a lot of material on this and I'm still confused if I need the donor steering column or not. My current truck has the saginaw box. The material i've found says you need the steering column if going from Bendix to Saginaw but since I already have a Saginaw box, do I still need the shorter steering column or can i use my existing one and just change out the steering column bracket at the firewall? I am taking the donor box and pitman arm to install in my current truck.
yes i did but like I said, i still dont know LOL. the article is mainly going from Bendix to Saginaw PS but it doesn't address if you already have a Saginaw manual box and going to PS box. I'm hoping that i can keep my current steering column and just change out the firewall bracket to the PS one that changes the angle of the column...unless the info is in there and Ive totally missed it
You are comparing apples to bananas. The Ford Saginaw manual box is different from the Ford Saginaw PS box. The manual box is about the same length as a Bendix PS box. The Saginaw PS box is 2" longer than a manual or Bendix box, so you need a Saginaw PS column, or shorten yours. All of this is in the article under the Bendix, Saginaw, and column sections.
