Can someone recommend a remote car starter for my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT that will work with my existing car alarm?? I dont want to spend more than $70. Thanks.

 

The thing with remote starters is they dont like the after market alarm...if it came from the factory your fine, for some reason the after market alarms dont work....if you have a factory alarm no problem there an override for it....as far as price i would say you cant get one for under a 100 unless you try ebay, but they all do pretty much the same, now if you have an after market alarm the remote start will work, you just have to either not arm the system or disarm your alarm then press the remote start button, or you just never arm the alarm. Thats what i was told when i went shopping for mine this past summer, i went to the big electonic stores, the cheepest one they had was a $100 and they would install it for free, only problem was with my alarm, i dont have that far of a reach with mine now so it would not work, and i needed one for a manual trans, so then i tryed some local stereo shops they wanted 200 installed for the auto trans model they said they would rig it so it would work, or for the standard trans was 250, and then 300 for one that had an alarm too, i bought one off ebay 100 bucks, then 75 to be installed, this had an alarm too in one unit they took my old alram out, i was going to do it myself got it home read the instuctions....NO WAY!!!!!!TOO complicated plus sometimes you need a moduler and a few other pieces, you have to find wires and if you make a mistake you could fry the whole system or even mess you igtion up, i would stick with the pros, plus it would probally tak you a day pros 1hr.....also before you buy off ebay make sure theres a stereo shop that will install stuff not bougt from them (most wont....None of the bigger electronic stores do, have to find a small ma and pop store that will)

 

ive seen them at walmart for about 50, but don't know how good they are. Ive thought about getting one, to go on my 91 exp. I dont have keyless entry and it would be handy.

 

I bought one from Miejer's. It is made by BullDog. I installed in to my 02 f350 and worked GREAT. and I didn't have to bypass keyless entry or alarm. And they still the same.
It was only $50. Good luck.
