ZooDad has been helping me get my Gateway module updated (I haven't done it yet tho). And after that it seems I need to get onto FDRS and get more updates.
I spent some time tonight reading threads about updating Sync 4. After all that I am not sure why I even want to update anything. Folks complaining about have to change the initial screen upon each start, Alexa issues (not sure what but apparently it either doesn't work as it should or whatever).
So - why bother updating at all? I'm OK with things as they are.
oh - spent time on the phone with Ford 1-800 number earlier this week about updates and got the same stuff as advised here, headlights in off position, parking brake set, etc. Tried all that multiple times - a waste of my time and effort as no updates occur.
This is why I haven’t really pursued updates. I don’t really have any complaints with my current version, but have read the complaints from guys with newer. Sure, full screen CarPlay might be nice, but is it worth other hassles?
Personally....we need to shove it down Ford's throat so to speak. You designed it this way, you need to make it work. Clog up the dealerships, clog up the CS numbers with complaints. Or just fix it yourself (the owner).....
I can't say for Sync 4, but I know updating Sync 3 can help with some issues of sounding like you're 'in a cave' on phonecalls.
I'll say this though - Ram makes it easy to update Uconnect. It downloads in the background, lets you know it needs to be done, and the only thing I've ever had to do was reboot the Uconnect system once to restore all features.
Heck, all the sync4 updates I've gotten, happened without my doing anything, it was all automatic, I had no choice but to take them.
The alexa update was total crap, called the customer service for ford pass, got passed around to a number of different departments, but I guess they did something because I don't see anything about it anymore.
And, YES, full screen on android auto google maps update was GREAT!
There are several versions of Sync updates. Revision 6xx and earlier was pretty bad with a lot of bugs. The latest Revision 934 which came out about 2 months ago is what I am running now, along with updates to all of my other modules using FDRS. It seems stable and resolved some of the gremlins I had with my truck. So far no real complaints on this version.

I agree with this. @ZooDad helped me get the fullscreen update and I'm happy with that. My truck is not doing any OTA updates on its own, but I'm not sure I want it to do anything else. I don't have (or want) Alexa in my truck. I don't feel like there are any problems, so why risk changing anything?
The only thing on my wish list would be Ford fixing the crappy heated steering wheel controls. I can't believe they don't have a physical button, or easier access to the on screen toggle. It's a serious driver distraction trying to get to the proper screen to turn it off. I don't know why they can't make the status icon toggle the heater?

With the 610 revision, you can turn on the unreal engine allowing you to put the HVAC controls on the bottom of the screen which includes the heated steering wheel controls.

I'm on v610. What do I need to do to turn unreal engine on?
I am a systems person and keeping stuff updated just part of life. Applied my free maps update this morning and it took a while.
Truck did its own sync update two days ago after trying to do it via USB. Ended up known issue was preventing the update from working.
Now if the sync system was more closely integrated with the operating system of the truck and such would mess with brakes, engine, key systems then might be less inclined to update as the updates are released.
In the future probably won't have much say with increased use of over the air updates.

I know someone who purchased her car, liked it, then liked it less after an "update". Perhaps that "update" was for somebody else, not the owner/driver.

Uhhh that is exactly how Ford's update process works ..................theoretically. ;-)
