I work for a local farmer. They have over 60 LT's in their fleet. Most are Ford, but there are several Dodges and a few Chevys and one or two Isuzu box vans. They also have five big rigs, Peterbbuilt, Kenworth and Freight Liner. So, we are in need of advanced diagnostics. Specifically power train, ABS, TPMS, emissions, BCM, etc. on all of these vehicles.
So, what system's would you recommend? I would prefer an All in One unit. Ideas? Thanks, B.
Imho, I’d hire a full time lic/experienced mechanic with experience working / managing within the logistics of a large fleet that can figure out the answer to that question….
Also going to need more than one piece of equipment as semis is a different world than trucks. Also, there are different systems just within semis. Not going to be cheap no matter how you look at it. Luckily peterbilt and Kenworth are paccar but if they are equipped with cummins, then that's different as well.
Definitely need to talk to someone that deals with this type of scenario. It would be much easier if the fleet was narrowed down to one or two truck brands as well as semi's
You are going to have to eat the elephant here, one bite at a time. Get something like auto enginuity, that should cover all of the pickups and passenger vehicles. Then, when whatever program you get doesn't work for a vehicle, search what does work and get that.
Familiarize yourself with the mechanical diesels first, if they have them, then learn about what diagnostic tools are used on those, acquire one at a time as you learn about them. If you're bent on servicing the fleet, it'll take months but you'll eventually be familiar with what you need to be familiar with.
So Auto Enginuity and a laptop? Or get the top of the line Autel? And leave the semi trucks to the dealers? I know Matco has an all in one, but it's nearly 11 grand. Too much money. B.

Are an of the large trucks mechanical? You could start with those.
11 grand doesn't seem like that much to me, sounds like maintaining and repairing 60 vehicle fleet with big diesels will pull a lot of revenue and you could use the diagnostics to branch out to work on vehicles off the farm.
If 11k is too much, simply get one of the cheaper diagnostic software and go to town on the pickups.
Got it. Well, the farmer is going to be buying the unit we need to do in-depth diagnostics. He is tired of sending vehicles to respective dealers for simple diagnostics.
For those of you using Autel tools, how do you like them? How is their support. Quality of tool? Thanks, B.
