Long story. Transfer case will not shift. Dash light says it is in 4-Hi but the case is actually in 2-Hi. I know this by locking the hubs and making a tight turn with no front tire 'hop'. It tries to shift but doesn't. The shift motor is new. I can't remember the error code at the moment but the code says there is a broken wire in t-case circuit. This whole issue began when I changed the batteries. Everything was fine until the new batteries were installed. After installation of new batteries, and I started it up, immediately the dash light went to 4-Hi - without me moving the shift switch. I disconnected the batteries for a half hour, tried again, same thing.
I can't believe it is a wire cut or shorted because of how/when it happened - but what do I know. Is there a control module for the shifting of the case? Could that be the issue? There is more involving the local dealer working on this problem but I won't get into that. Please put me, and the transmission shop, in the right direction.
