I'm driving a '97 F-250HD, 4 WD, 7.3L with 292K, we are original owners. Over the last 6-8 months it has begun spurting/low power first thing in the morning. Since the weather has turned cold here in central Texas I have begun plugging it in over night so that the heater is warm first thing in the morning. When I started doing this I noticed the spurting has gone away and it runs fine right out of the gate. Any thoughts are appreciated. thanks
I don’t know what you mean by “spurting“ but most all diesels run rough and have low power when they are cold. Start it and let it run for 5-10 minutes before driving.

What I mean by sputtering is almost like the truck is running out of fuel
Sounds like the exhaust valve is engaged when it is cold, like it was designed to, to help the engine warm up faster. It can be unhooked and wired open, as it is not needed.
Sounds like the OP is stating this is a new issue and not the typical winter starting.
sounds like it needs to be checked out, looking for codes and diagnosis.
could be fuel issue, glow plugs, UVCH, injectors, EBPV, who knows
