Howdy all! Been reading here awhile (and writing a little). I'm getting set to buy/order my 2004 6.0L CC 4x4 SB. I plan on doing only light occassional towing. I could use some help deciding if I need:
1. dual alternators: why would this be needed, whatzit for?
2. Auxilary Idle Control Kit: Whatzit for?
3. Camper Package: Many of trucks on the lots are already
equipped with this package. I'm never gonna put a camper in
it, so are the heavier springs and rear steering stabilizer a
cause for any problems if I don't use a camper?
I would really like to have input from you guys out there.
I agree with King Ranch on the dual alt. In a previous post someone suggested an aftermarket alt if you need more juice. If you tow only occasionally and don't push the truck then even the camper package is unnecessary. The auxilliary idle control allows you to temporarily set the idle speed higher, helps with PTO use.
I recommend getting the FX4 package or having a set of good aftermarket shocks installed prior to leaving the dealership. Even the cheap Ranchos on the FX4 pachage are light years ahead of the stock ford shocks. When we first started looking at trucks, we drove a non FX4 truck. After putting it sideways on the interstate on-ramp, I nor my wife wanted anything to do with the Fords. Then, we drove the FX4 and we bought. Not as good a ride as the GM, but as good as the dodge.
