Looking at two trucks both are almost identical except one has the camper package and the other has the FX4 package.
The one with the camper package does not have the heavier duty front end, as I understand and lacks a couple skid plates. Not worries about the price difference, its very minor anyway. Truck with camper package is a little cheaper.
What do you all think?
Thanks!
I don't know how much you have looked at the different threads but many many people with the fx4 package were having to replace the stock shocks very early, some just 2000 or so miles. Also if skid plates are a big need for you I would think you could order some and install them either stock or aftermarket.
Ya I have heard the Rancho shocks are kinda crappy. Don't plan on taking the truck off road for at least a while. If I need plates I'll buy some aftermarket ones.
My 2012 has both Camper and FX4 packages. The camper package includes the front spring upgrade plus the rear stabilizer, with a higher GVWR rating for the truck, but what was important for me was the skid plate for the Transfer Case and Fuel Tank. I don't know about shocks going bad at 2,000 miles but they are part of the FX4 package. When searching for my truck those were two options at the top of my list. Get the truck with the options that suit the purpose you intend to use the truck for.
Seriously though, the FX4 ain't no great shakes and is only a $400 option. Get your camper package and order the stamped metal skid plates and an FX4 sticker off ebay.
Is the FX4 package the only way to get the Hill Descent Control feature?
I was going to skip on the FX4 when building a truck since a Titan tank and skid plate would be installed, and Rancho 9000xl's would be going on, all I would need is the t-case skid plate - I forgot about the HDC.
Looking at my invoice the Camper Package is $160 and the FX4 is skid plate package is $295. I have the HDC feature but can't see which option it's included with?
The camper package is a musti if you plan on towning heavy. I have seen some on here complain of sagging rear with weight in the back. I have both packages and my fifth wheel pin weight is 2690 and the overload springs dont even contact the rubber bump stops sitting still with the camper hooked up. Not sure if ford beefed up the 2012 springs. One thing to be aware of with the camper pkg is height and your garage door clearance. I barely clear my 80 inch opening by an inch. I have to shovel a few feet beyond the door in the winter or i will scrape backing out if i ride on built up snow. I love the ride and hadling the camper package affords with the 5er hooked up. Ditch the shocks if u opt for the fx4 and get some bilstiens. The hdc is awesome and worth every penny spent on it. Do a search for hill descent and read our posts about how well it works. You will love the truck if u by either one. Mike
As I understand, you get the snow plow pkg when you have the FX4 pkg. I will never put a snow plow on it, but it is suppose to have a heavier duty front end. What do they mean ( heavier duty front end) is that just different shocks?
I will be hauling 15000 to 20000lbs Equipment on a goose neck trailer at times so I would assume that I would definitely want the camper pkg.

snow plow pkg gives you heavier duty springs on the front end that are rated for more weight ( 6,000lbs )
