Post Engine Identification

I just purchased a 1989 Bronco with the 5.0 EFI engine. The engine appears not to be original and I don't have a clue how to find out what year engine is in the truck.

I believe the engine is not original for the following reasons:
1) Water pump for a 1989 Bronco 5.0 won't fit my truck.
2) Spark plugs are very long reach (Autolite #2546) which cross over to AC# R45NTSE. Not the normal R43TS plugs spec'd for the 89 Bronco 5.0
3) Knock Sensor is located on the intake manifold, dead center as far back on the manifold as possible in a position where no normal human can see it or get to it for removal.

Any help in identifying this engine would be greatly appreciated.

That's the normal location for the knock sensor, but check here.

I'm having the same problem with my 94 F-150. I have bought books and looked all over the engine but still can't figure out where the ID plate for the engine would be. My intake says "5.0 EFI" with date stampings of 1994, but the firing order is that of a 351 or 302HO. I had thought maybe since my truck was assembled in November of 94 the plant had used the 1995 5.0 engine with the 351's firing order but have yet to find a 95 date stamping. If I could find the ID plate it sure would solve a lot of my problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not surprising that your '94 would have a '95 engine - they had to make the change sometime in '94. Just start thinking of it as a '95 engine and it should make more sense.

I wish it was that easy but if it is a 95 then why do all the date stampings say 94? The ID plate is probably the only thing I really can trust. If only I could figure out where it is....

Because it was built in the calendar year of '94. But obviously, it was built to the '95 MODEL year specs.

your engine is manufactured too the 1995 model year specs,it is in all accounts a 1995,i have a 11/94 ford f150 XLY 4x4,it is a 1995 302HO,check your firing order,if the first 2 are 1,5,you have a 95 or up 302HO

Wow!!!

Thanks for getting to the ID plate issue, everyone. You might, however, want to look at the truck pics in my gallery NOW and see how I got around the problem of ID'ing this engine. It's the expensive way but I'm happy.
