Payload and insurance surprise
I didn’t expect my 24 Lariat Ultimate F350, CC short bed, with 7.3 Godzilla to have such a high payload rating. Even more surprising it will only
cost $15 more to insure for 6 months than my 21 GMC Denali 1500. $350 for 6 months, 250 ded collision and 0 ded Comp.

so true . I wonder what company and what type of coverage they have . My Progressive Commercial vehicle insurance here in Texas is now up to over $1000 a month for 3 vehicles . A 2008 Ford Ranger , a 2016 Isuzu NQR and our 2019 Ford F350 . It's insane .

100/300 Liability
250 ded collision

I do not carry uninsured or underinsured as it offers nothing to a retired person with good medical insurance.

I have a little higher coverage for our business . I also definitely have uninsured/under insured coverage . I learned that lesson about 30 years ago when I had a car totaled by an uninsured driver and I only had liability insurance . Lost the whole car (luckily not an expensive one) and didn't have any coverage .

It would be a good idea to carry under or uninsured if you carry liability only,

But, claiming someone else's damage to your vehicle on you own insurance makes your rate go up, at least in Texas it does, that is why I have uninsured/underinsured coverage, plus it is not a very high cost add-on.

I would think your payload capacity is correct but when my truck arrived it had a yellow sticker of 4562 pounds. About a year a later Ford said, oops, we made a mistake, it's actually 4054 pounds. They did a recall and issued a new sticker which the dealer had to install. The insurance on my truck is more than double the cost of insuring the wife's 2022 Subaru Ascent Touring.

But in a lot of cases the insurance companies will go after each other in subrogation to recoup their payout. I once even had my insurance company get my $500 deductible back for me in the subrogation process. The other guy was clearly at fault and received several tickets.

That's going to vary from state to state. New York is a no fault state, meaning that no matter who is at fault your insurance pays for your damage and the other guy's pays for his.

And, insurance companies can't go after the other guy's insurance company if he didn't have any insurance, ie; uninsured, so that is why you need under-insured/uninsured coverage, again, at least in Texas.

I carry it anyway. It's not a high dollar item in my opinion. And I do travel to Florida for vacation every year, passing through several states in between. I have no idea what any of their insurance rules are so uninsured/under insured seems like a good idea to me.

It is crazy how much cheaper it is to insure houses and vehicles in Tennessee as compared to Florida. Property taxes are also ridiculously low here.
Back in 2007 I lived in Florida. I paid GEICO $115 per month for $50,000 / $100,000; $500 deductible; with uninsured coverage for a 2004 Ford F-150. I had a perfect driving record and I was single at the time.
I moved to Tennessee in early 2008. My new coverage was $100,000 / $300,000 on the same truck for $58 / month with TN Farm Bureau Insurance.
Fast-forward to today TN Farm Bureau is covering:
2012 Escape Limited - $40 / month
2019 Lariat F-350 - $52 / month
2002 Z06 Corvette - $37 / month
2016 Suzuki 1250S - $12 / month
2021 Venture 36' RV - $22 / month
Grand Total: $163 / month
The coverage for that pricing is $250,000 / $500,000; $500 deductible; uninsured motorist; 30 day rental car reimbursement; roadside assistance. There are no mileage / use restrictions on any of the vehicles, other than personal (non-business) use only. To be transparent I am bundled with my home owners insurance as well and both my wife and I are accident / ticket / automotive claim free. I had a home owners claim (new roof - hail & wind damage) this past year and they were fantastic in their handling of the whole event.

So many undocumented/illegals around Texas, and so many people driving on fake dealer tags and such, and so many of those are the worst drivers on the road as well, you just have to have good insurance to protect yourself.
