Rookie mistake 😱

I decided it would be a good idea to update my SCT x4. …

About 20 minutes into the process it said it was downloading file number 1/4755.. then as I was sitting there waiting, I got to reading and some people were saying that if you updated certain features are not gonna be available anymore and if certain things have been done to the vehicle you’re gonna have issues.. so I got spooked and unplugged it so it would not complete the update.

Now if I go to program vehicle, it just says tune revision update needed. I thought about unmarrying the device from my truck and then restoring the stock file to the truck. And then restoring the SCT to factory settings and hoping that the files that came with it from the factory would still be on there… I’m nervous to put my truck back to stock and then restore the tuner and then not be able to play with certain functions anymore.. truck has had a lightweight e g r on it since I got it.

The good news is it still starts up and I can still monitor parameters I just cannot change any tuning anymore. What do you guys think? Should I return it to stock and try to restore the device or just leave it alone?

You should NEVER EVER EVER do any PCM updates or tuner updates without FIRST returning your vehicle to STOCK. You're lucky you didn't brick your truck PCM. Call SCT and let them get you straightened out IF they can before you try anything else with your truck.

thank you. I should have known. I didn’t drive the vehicle. Just started it in the driveway. All seems well.

You might have some soft codes if your EGR valve & cooler isn't there anymore.

Yes - always return to stock before doing any sort of tune moving on your device OR on switching tunes on the truck. I've actually created issues with mine by NOT doing that. Returning to stock & reloading the tune fixed everything!

thank you, I just clicked tuner update, and I assumed if I needed to revert back to stock that it would prompt me to do so, like I said, luckily, I have no issues or that I’m aware of though
