Ideal weight is a crock if you ask me, I am 6' tall and have a large frame. According to the last chart I saw, my ideal weight is 186. I weigh 240 and might say I'm a little overweight, but if I actually weighed 186, I would look anorexic.

I think the big thing at the whole heart of the issue is how healthy you are. (I don't mean sick with some ailment) Are people "healthy" at an "ideal" body weight? Maybe, maybe not. But ask this: Are people healthy if they have to stop to catch their breath after walking up a flight of stairs? (Again, I don't mean an asthma patient.) No.

I went on a tour of the local police training program in high school, and all participants had to go through the basic "obstacle course". It wasn't that hard.

Someone else I talked to about Canadian Army basic training said the maximum time to run a mile was 10 minutes. Again, not hard. But maybe with a 50 pound sack, it might prove difficult.

I think the minimum standards set by some agencies need to be addressed to wake up the rest of the populace who want to get in.

Sorry for a little bit of a tangent.

Call me lazy and fat... but I mulch my leafs with the mower.
Leafs are endless task around here... as they are everywhere, but I just mulch them and leave the on the yard (mulches them up so you cant even see them hardly) and it makes good fertilizer until it actually gets cold, and if theres any left I'll rake them up;

Again I'm off for the next few days and I'm going to let a few of the Sheep and goats come up to eat all of the loose leaves, and some of my grass is still growing. I'll just stick to riding my ten speed for exersize. I'm still going to winterize the mower though.

As if there aren't enough overweight adults nowdays, just look around and see how many fat kids are out there. I can only attribute this to TV/VCR/DVD, video games, internet, microwave snacks/meals, and SUPER SIZED fries and cokes at fast food joints. Back when I was a kid there wasn't much on TV and the other crap didn't exist, therefore we got to exercise and burn off extra energy rather than wear it.

Since loosing all the weight 10 years of mismanagement caused me to gain, I have be very conscious of the number of grossly obese children. I look at the mall, and see kids that weigh at least twice the healthy weight - an eight year old, who is so large, that his legs wobble as he tries to run. That is so tragic; the parents should be horse whipped for allowing that to happen. A friend of mine is a doctor whose practice encompasses many such children, tells me that they will have diseases that usually only effect senior adults, by the time they are 15. He is treating children of that age with heart disease, onset of geriatric decay, and mental degradation. By the time those particular kids are 30, they will be without motivation, no cognitive ability, and displaying signs of dementia. Old, phased out, with geriatric disorders and dead of degenerative disease by 45. Studies now do tell of the probability of children being outlived by parents, and those who live longer will not attain the median age of their parent's generation. This is known by medical science, and they do little or nothing to change the trend.

That should be determined as criminal, and the medical profession found guilty of terrible neglect. I have began to shout this from whichever rooftop I can access, but without the help of many thousands of others, all we can expect is to go to a lot of youngsters funerals.

I hope something can happen so we can all get healthy.
I agree on the kids not eating their vegetables, you dont't see that too often anymore. However I am happy that my 1yr old son(b-day on t-day!) will eat any kind of vegetable that you give to him. I'm not talking about the ground up baby food vegetables, he eats vegetables just as any adult would. I always worried about that because I, myself am considered overweight. I'm 6'4" about 290. I do have a large frame so my ideal weight is about 240-250. I always told myself that I would never let my children go through what I went through with being overweight as a child. I hope he continues with his healthy eating habits.

i am 6'1" and @ 187-190 pounds... guess it depends on what day of the week it is. i was 205 for a while, then down to 170!!! that was when i got sick. i do very physical work, so its been a battle to get up to my ideal weight, or close to it i should say. id like to be @ 200 pounds, cause i have broad chest + shoulders i look underweight if i weigh any less. or maybe thats just my personal opinion.

anyways, i lift weights 3 times a week for an hour - an hour and a half. been doing this since Feburary. right now i can bench-press 245, lat-pull-down 340, and curl quite alot. i really think my arms look small considering my strength, so im planning to gain a few more pounds to even it out.
