I am overwhelmed looking for the right Differential Rebuilt kit. I am looking at Rock Auto (If you have other recommendations, I'd love to hear it), and I'm finding numerous choices of what I thought would be a simple find given I have the tag information below. I also want to get new axle bearings, but I can't find any of their "Mega" kits that include them.. anyone have an idea of what I should get.. or am I over thinking this? What is really confusing me most is the info on their parts lift (I see various "Carrier Journal" measurements, and various "Dropout" measurements as well). Thanks for y'alls help!
Are you doing only the differential (spiders/clutches) or all the bearings (pinion, carrier) too?
Why rebuild, what issue does it have? Want different gears?

Hi Smoky,
I was actually only going to do the bearings and seals, unless I find damage to the other parts. I figure it could use a refresh as I am doing a full frame off rebuild for my 1971 F100 4x4. Also, it helps give me experience and knowledge as this is a fairly new hobby for me.
Here is a little info on your rear axle. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post8239058
If you haven't rebuilt a rear gear before and do not have the tools outlined in your shop manual I would think twice before you pull it apart.
You can get axle bearings and seals at any parts house. Again, your shop manual tells how to change them.

I appreciate the info. I do have my own hobby shop with a ton of tools (automotive too), I'll check out my service manual, thanks.
I would pull the cover and inspect. mark carrier caps, pull diff, check carrier bearing. Likely they are fine. If pinion seal is leaking, that is another story. Good luck.
