1973 Wheel options

Hi Folks,
I have a 1973 F250 Ranger XLT 2WD with 9.50R16.5LT stock white steel wheels and stock spec suspension (upgraded of course).
My bolt pattern is 8X165.1.
I am looking to swap with aftermarket wheels and more common tire sizes.
When I called around including to Tire Rack Customer service I am told I can put 18X9 8X165.1 paired with
LT275/65 R18.
The best I can tell with the research I have done here on the forum is most people put on 16 or 17's.
Anyone gone to 18's or have feedback on which wheel/tire combo works well?
Here is an example of the wheel size Tirerack recommended - I am also questioning the offset - please note I do not know much about this subject yet.

Thanks for the help!

There's no advantage with going with anything larger than 16". lots of tire options and at lower prices. and they look correct because they are correct, 16 and 16.5 were the only option.

You have 8 on 6.5, at least that is the common terminology used to describe your lug bolt pattern/rim size. 8 lug nuts and 6 1/2" spacing from one lug across to the other one. 16.5 tires are pretty much extinct, unless you want mil takeoffs or these $. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...s&gad_source=1

"Is 8x165.1 the same as 8x6 5? "This bolt pattern is known by two different numbers, but there is no real difference between the fitments except that one is written in inches and the other in millimeters."

So I learned something today. I do not use the metric system. Lol So getting or steeping up to 16's, 17's or even 18's gives you way more tires options that 16.5's. Just make sure you have the correct back spacing on the 16's to clear the brake caliper on the front. I would want to test fit the bard rim before hard purchase and tire install.

Thank you both, I was able to find a local shop with some used wheels with the correct bolt pattern.
I tried both common 16x8 and 17x9. 17x9 seemed to fit and clear the caliper best, possibly due to the dual piston caliper I have vs those with single piston
