I have an odd problem that has me stumped with my 6.4. The truck starts and runs fine I can drive it as long as I want, but if I shut it off it will not start back up till the engine is completely cold. It doesn't miss, run rough, or idle rough at all runs perfect as long as you don't turn it off, no codes either. If you try to start it before it is completely cold it starts for a split second and then shuts right off. I put a new crank and cam position sensors in it, I did find the connector for the cam sensor needed replace so did that while changing the sensor. Thought I had it figured out when I found the connector for the cam sensor because before it would not start only do the try to start fire for half a second and shut off, after putting in the new connector and cam and crank sensors since I already had them it started right up ran great I drove it came home left it, got in it two days later started fine ran great drove into work because the guys needed me to come look at something and when I went to head back out it went back to the start for half a second shut off I thought great it's doing it again so I had my wife come pick me up figured I would deal with it later. Well went back to look at it about 5 or 6 hours later thought what the heck lets try to start it and it started up fine ran great drove it home. It has me baffled everything seems to check out and the no codes not even when it fails to start is just confusing. It doesn't have any issues once it's at running temp while driving you could literally drive it across county as long as you didn't shut it off and try to restart it right away. Anybody else run into this and have the answer to what it causing this? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
The truck is a 2010 DPF and EGR are deleted and have been since new, has an H&S mini has since new. The truck only has 46,000 miles on it ( I ride my bike even in winter unless there is snow and ice on the roads).
Do you have a scan tool that can read data? Any codes present? If you have a scanner that can watch data look to see if it is building rail pressure while cranking.
Okay so the truck is fixed and here is a little PSA for anyone checking out this post.
So when I replaced the cam position sensor connector I used the solder butt splices they are great for doing like handlebar wiring and all kinds of other wiring well they are not so good for replacing that connector and really probably no connector in the engine bay, when the truck would heat up it was melting the solder from the two wires as soon as the truck cooled down the solder harden around the wires again. I removed the connector and redid the job with crimp butt splices and ta da trucks back to starting every time again.
Evan P sorry I didn't get a chance to get back on and see your post till now after she is fixed but thank you for the suggestions I really appreciate the help.
