Back in a 5Gen

Got a guy coming up from Utah to deliver a 96 xl bronco to me... getting it in a trade deal. Had a 5.0 and zf Trans swapped, but also includes the original transmission, which I believe would be the m5od?
looks pretty solid in pics. Does have some rust in the passenger side quarter (Utah...). Driver side was already replaced and comes with new panel for the passenger side. Will post pics later once I get it.
Not my first big bronco. Have had a 91 and 94. Both were 351s but auto. This'll be a toy i can build up however i want but do want to keep it fairly reliable. Probably will do some minor motor work ( cam, headers, maybe heads.) 199 hp is not going to cut it.... will likely lift it with extended radius arms, good shocks and maybe 35s. Might look at SAS up front or maybe super duty axles. Ttb will be OK for now.
Any advice or items to address right away are appreciated.

Looking into solid axle swaps.... waffling between a D44 and keeping the 8.8 rear or D 60 and 10.5. Want to stick with coils, so no early leaf sprung axles. Wondering if the one tons would be too heavy for my little 5.0. I do plan on warming up the motor eventually, but don't want to make reliability suffer.
I've also see several kits out there for each. Pros and cons for each? what has worked for people? Cost, of course, is always a concern. Thanks.

Well, I'm no expert, but personally, if I was going to spend the money I would go for the tons. It seems silly to invest that much and have the weaker axles.

yeah, I definitely get that, but the 44 will allow only swapping the front axle, keeping costs down quite a bit. I can keep the 8.8. I've found a couple 44s for around $400-$500. 60s seem to be going for around $800+. Same for a the 10.5.
not saying I don't want to do 1 tons. Just weighing my options.

Got a great deal on a 6" lift. Think it's a skyjacker. Extended radius arms and leaf springs. So I'll stay with the ttb for now. Going to get everything stripped and powder coated before I install it, new bushings all around, hardware etc.
spent some time in the shop today going over it, changed the oil, trans fluid, greased everything. The PO appeared to have taken pretty good care of the truck, mechanically anyway. Greasable ball joints, a couple u joints, new(er) bushings. The trans fluid was a bit milky. Used synthetic Mercon. Changed out about a quart of old power steering fluid too. Also semi synthetic Motorcraft 5w-30 and filter. I decided to hold off doing diffentials until I install the limited slip(s) or locker(s) and c clip eliminator. The front end u joints need replaced. Looks like the bearings may be rusty. Need to find a D50 stub shaft first.
walked my wife through few steps building her y block for her 64 f100 flareside 4x4 while working on the bronco, too. Now my parking brake light won't turn off... must have hit something. I'll look into it later.

Looks like a cool project. I'm just a few miles from you I think. Pretty sure I've seen you in your blue Scout before in Twin.
