Hi all, I have a '92 F150. The OD "Off" light that is on the end of the shift lever appears to be burnt out. The light no longer comes on when disengaging the overdrive. I did a search on past posts but I didn't come up with anything. How do you replace this lightbulb? Thanks, Charles
I would assume that you just pop the endcap off and remove the switch and bulb together. I am not sure as I have never had to do it. But if I remember right from the books that is the procedure.
pfogle/aikigod, Thanks for replying. I checked out the supplied link and will order the part next Monday. What was really great about the supplied link was that it also addressed the other problem I had. My OFF LED had been flickering erratically. I took this to be the dreaded time to rebuild the E4OD torque converter/transmission. It had been flickering so much that the LED finally burnt out. But this article points out to not mistake the erractic flickering (which I have) with a steady flashing pattern. So it looks like I may have gotten lucky. Again thanks for taking the time to reply guys. This is a great forum. Charles
Just an update. Installed the new OD switch tonite. The switch ($10.37) comes with the LED light as one unit. As advised, all you have to do is pry off the end cap, pull the switch out (it has 3 small electrical prongs on it) and reinstall the new switch. The dealer talked me into a new and improved end cap (it wasn't much costwise-$4.38) and I installed it over the switch. Now for the good news. The LED stays solidly lit when the overdrive is disengaged as opposed to the flickering it was doing previously before it burnt out. So it appears my trans is in good health (knock on wood!). Thanks All. Charles
