I own a 2012 Ford F150 and for a couple of years I have been getting a lot of warning lights coming on and off. (Check Engine light, Service AdvancTrac Light). I brought it to the dealer and they "corrected" the check engine light, but my service AdvanceTrac light is still going on and off. I refuse to bring it back to the dealer for a second repair. I googled how to fix the check engine light on a Ford F150 and a guy on UTube had a remedy that I think should be everyone's first step for any warning lights on Ford Vehicles. He showed how to disconnect the ground cable the attaches the chassis to the body of the vehicle. On an F150 I found the cable on the passenger side of the truck just behind the front wheel. If you get underneath and look up, you will see a braided cable that grounds the chassis to the body of the truck. This cable is exposed to all the elements that cause corrosion. On my truck the cable bolts were so rusted that I couldn't even remove them.. It was obvious when I looked at this that it is a very corroded connection that probably is not conducting electricity very well. Due to the extensive corrosion on the ground connection I decided not to even try to remove the old corroded ground. What I did instead is I took a couple of bolts that were the same size as a tap that I inherited from my father. I drilled and tapped a new hole in the chassis and the body of the truck. I then used dielectric grease that can be purchased at most hardware stores. I cut a piece of copper wire and put dielectric grease on the bare wires. I then smeared the bolts with the dielectric grease and added a little to the threads of the tapped holes. Now I tightened the bolts down on the wires and all of my warning lights have gone off! Tomorrow, I plan to replace the wire with a new chassis to body ground strap. BEFORE BRINGING YOUR FORD TO THE DEALER FOR DASH WARNING LIGHTS, TRY CLEANING/REPLACING THE GROUNDING STRAP THAT CONNECTS THE CHASSIS TO THE BODY! It could save you a lot of money.
