I am slowly getting familiar with all the new features on my 2023 F-350 KR, (and it is quite a learning curve) While most of the features are easy to understand one feature has me wondering. With the adaptive cruise/collision avoidance system has me wondering, when the system applies the brakes to slow down without my input/touching the brakes does it also activate the brake lights to warn the people/cars behind me.

Yes.
Same logic as the adaptive cruise which can use the brakes as well and if it does use the brakes, the brake lights come on.
What also concerns me is the system braking at an in-opportune time... 2X now the red warning light for "imminent" danger has come on, once I agreed it was getting too close and I put on the brakes, but the other time I didn't think there was the slightest danger of a collision, so now I don't know how "good" this system is...??? Turning it off would effect my insurance so that isn't an option.

I dont know what it takes for the system to actually automatically slam on the brakes. I dont think I ever want to find out.
Ive gotten it some times in the truck and my daily driver car when people in front of me are turning right and the closure rate gets a little much for its comfort, but i have never had it actually activate the brakes.

My specific scenario was passing, pedal to the metal and the red screen blaring danger, danger, because of an on-coming vehicle that in my mind I could have made it no problem.... BUT, what if the brakes came on and there I am just about getting back into the lane but now I got nowhere to go, especially if the vehicle I was passing slowed down to let me in...
On my '22 you can turn off the braking "feature" and just get the warning lights. You can also turn off the warning/system altogether, but I think this incurs the penalty of the truck asking you if that is OK every time you start it.... Mine is set to not activate the brakes. I do not EVER want a vehicle to do that "for me".... ever. I had a vehicle like that, the system could not be defeated, it was wrong minded and dangerous, even bruised my wife with the seat belt for no actual good reason.
My Honda had that auto emergency braking and it was absolutely a pain in the ***. Dumped that car early this year and just drive my XL F250 with non of that crap. Just think 2025 most manufacturers have pledged to make those "safety" features standard even on 8500lb and up vehicles. Brake lights do come on though whenever the emergency braking takes place from the AI that knows what's going on up ahead.
I’ve turned off the emergency front brake feature on my ‘23. It “warns” me that it is turned off each time I start the truck, but that’s no biggie. I turned it off because my driveway is a sudden start incline. If I approach it going over about 3 mph, the truck seems to interpret it as a wall vs an incline and slams on the brakes. After the 3rd time of that happening, I had had enough and turned that feature off.

same reason mine got turned off because I visit a house frequently with the same scenario.
driveway on an incline and when you get to the bottom Where it meets the street it was slamming on the brakes on me

WOW, That is a WTF, Let's injure the occupant's because of un-expected emergency full braking for no discernable reason, I can except/appreciate, it happening when a pedestrian walks out in front and you and you didn't see them, but, that is usually a slow moving scenario that you do see, out of the corner of your eye, but you for some reason didn't react to...

I have had the same thing happen, activating the front brakes pulling into my garage.

I get the same..warning with my 22 platinum .the red warning light with no braking...My Volvo..has the same system and works like intended...make me wonder if there is a fault with the system...
