1979 f250 4x4 floor shift-- steering column. My best description is from top (steering wheel) down, there is a steering wheel and nut, then a direction signal switch, then a bearing, then 2 nuts then the steering column tube flange then an additional plastic sleeve that would uptake the spacing where the shift collar would be, ok this sleeve that takes up the area where the shift collar (if column shift and not floor shift) would be, or is. this part appears to net even be in the parts catalogs i have looked at as well as hoe does it attatch? no screws or clips, must be glued maybe. If someone would attatch a parts catalog I would be able to isolate it and determine if it was available and how it attatches. thanks.
ok mine was all broken enough that those screws are no longer present and the tabs are gone. close examination with good light I find that it did attatch with screws. Now, anyone have that part number and where to obtain it?
Yes I am sure I have one of them collar pieces in my parts shed. I have it on my to look for list for tomorrow. I dug out a steering column shaft for another member today.
thanks. I believe the column has to be disassembled to get this piece Now if someone had the original partnumber I was going to cruise around NOS with that as well. if you have I would appreciate the post.
So you need the part # 3790 off a 4wd 79 F150/F250 steering column, for a w/p/s, none tilt, manual trans truck. Correct? I have one parts truck like that, that still has the complete steering column in it.
David said to reach out to DRB machine and fab to see of they have one. https://drbfab.com/
Yes. The ebay listing appears to be a tilt column part but might interchange- maybe. Yes manual trans, non tilt, power steering. thanks. I will try Donald this week.
I have a parts column (that is a tilt) with the same looking collar and the only difference I see is the hole for the turning signal stalk is a little different for the t/s lever to push and actuate the tile mechanism.
If Donald does not have one, reach out to me I will track you one down. I have a JY lap to make on friday anyway. If the one in my parts shed will not work or the one on my red parts truck.
Thanks again for the help. donald told me today that he had one, polished it for me and told me that it was not being repoduced anywhere-- then sold to me for a very reasonable price. seems to be a very solid contributor to the cause and I hope we can find more like him.
