No tailgate - no problem

So as a new owner of a 1965 Econoline pickup I am finding it difficult to source a tailgate as mine did not come with on. I am sure I can get one made but if I am going to do that I was wondering if anyone had thought about Van Doors?

Not sure those are any more accessible than the tailgate. I was thinking of sourcing rear van doors , adding hinges and cutting down the doors and creating a dual door tailgate that opens on the side? I am not 100% committed to this project yet , just wondering what my options are and the thought came to me.

I have seen it done online, and think it's a good idea. I do see doors showing up a lot more than tailgates.
