Hello folks. My 76 highboy was blowing fluid out of the inspection plate of the C-6 transmission . I thought that it was the 10$ seal behind the torque converter. I got the transmission out today and there was several small roller bearings in the bottom of the bellhousing. And a few pieces that looked like flat springs. About half inch wide in groups. They apparently came from inside the transmission. But not sure where.
. So I need some help. What are they and is it something that I can fix here at home or does it take special tools or knowledge?
thank you
The guy above nailed it... mine had some starter bits from years past when I separated mine. If you hone in you can see some springs and roller's also. There's really nowhere for things in the trans to get passed the sundial and the seal. My seal was also bad and got replaced.
When things let go inside the trans, you tend to find evidence in the pan...
Starter drive parts. There is a sprag clutch inside the trans, but I see no possible way they could have got out of the trans, and into the bell housing.
If your trans is shifting ok, and not slipping, I would not hesitate to put a seal in the pump, and put it back together. How does the end of the torque converter look?
Are there any groves or marks on the stub end of the converter?
The torque converter looks brand new. Actually only has under a thousand miles accually as it never leaves the yard , it's a plow truck only. If you look at the picture above. In the bellhousing, there is a round hole at the 7 o clock position and a small table. The parts were found there. So next to where the starter meets the ring gear. The seal actually looked good and I see no way a roller bearing 1/8" diameter and half inch long came around the seal to torque converter.
. What is the approxiapproximately 3/4" hole at the 7 o clock position in the bellhousing ? Could anything come through there?
. Thanks folks, really need this truck for plowing. We just keep getting snow
Correct on the starter motor parts. My beautiful wife took the picture n found identical parts for fixing a starter in a rebuild kit. She's much better on net. Thanks for all the help Starter parts
